  • QUALITY: Heavy-duty leader material that won’t kink or tangle. The 49 Strand 7x7 design made with Type 304 stainless steel provides outstanding tensile strength and abrasion resistance. Made to be tough
  • MADE IN USA. AFW is the leading wire leader producer. We offer the industry’s most complete line of wire products made in the United States since 1976.

Made from high strength, corrosion resistant Type 304 stainless steel, 49 Strand 7x7 cable provides excellent kink resistance and bit protection against shark and other big game toothy fish. This motion can kink single strand leader wire and can actually be more destructive to your tackle than the fierce bite. 49-Strand resists kinking, wrestles back, and allows you to hook up and haul in. This leader is designed for the hard hitting big game species like tuna, sharks or barracuda in salt water conditions. If you have ever had your line cut with a light duty leader by ferocious teeth of sharks, tuna or barracuda, you know how important it is to have a quality leader that can take abuse and not break down. Made in the USA by AFW.

I couldn't find 175lb Mason brand , so I bought AFW 175lb . This is as good as Mason. It was a good price for the 300 feet spool.

It works but I prefer the coated wire . This wire splinters and the small cut pieces of wire can get into fingers and feet if dropped on the floor. The covered wire does not do this and cuts cleaner.

I bought this to replace a string on a cat toy(you know, the stick with a feather on the end of a string). I have a rowdy, voracious, 20lb cat who knows how to use his teeth like scissors. He will catch the toy with his paws and clamp down on the string. Three chews or less(mere seconds of work for him) and he is prancing off with the toy and I'm left with the empty and now useless stick. I have wasted at least 50$ on string toys. Finally I sprung for a toy with interchangeable toys, and decided to replace the string before even playing with him. This wire is awesome. He can't catch his claws in it and cheat, can't chew through it even if I let him hold it for several minutes, it isn't stuck in a coil(it doesn't curl after being wound), it was long enough for me to make several toys, and it has a nice flippy springy quality(not stretchy but it moves nicely).

The leader wire is the weakest link in a lure.Like folks who tie up a quarter million dollar boat with a 29 cent string failure with this part of the lure is the place where failure is going to happenYou need to use 49 strand cable and you need to test the completed assembly with standard stress analysis procedures.I use a bicycle wheel to make the upper part that has no sharp bends or edges. and a 5 gallon bucket or large as a water filled calibrated load. Some cables fail but this one does what it claims. The other concern is the corrosion factor as well as the bending test. Lures that do not have action generally catch no fish. If you are using organic bait this is a good measure against the puffer fish who would bite off a finger if you stuck it in the two tooth mouth made by nature to cut coral.

I’ve used this cable for rigging wahoo lures for decades. Something is not right / has been changed in how it is manufactured. It never used to fray immediately upon being cut by my VERY sharp cable cutters. Now it frays as soon as it is cut, making it impossible to get it through the crimps / swages. The only solution I’ve found is to dab super glue on the area to be cut, let it dry, then cut the cable and proceed to rig / crimp / swage as normal. I have three 100yards spools of it and they all have this fault. PLEASE ADDRESS THIS FAULT AND GO BACK TO MAKING IT HOW YOU DID BEFORE.

Very nice wire, whips around Much better then Mono filament with Strength that can hold my own body weight (yes i tried it and it is higher then reated)it is very difficult to cut, i had not anticipated this, and will have to get some new cutters,(the dremel works in a pinch but is not fast or elegant) i have not tried it yet but if it preforms as well as i have seen so far i will be ordering more if i need it
