I enjoy reloading. I can make better ammunition than I can buy. I use this anti- static mat as a base for my Hornady powder dispenser. Precise dispensing of powder to the grain is dependent on lack of interference from spurious static electricity. This well designed mat provides that for me and my hobby.

There are several useful applications for this - resists pretty much everything (including heat), has nice cubbies for screws, offers static protection. In this case, it was cheap peace of mind for handling and installing potentially ESD-sensitive parts. Nicely made.

It holds to the tabletop surface very well - lots of little places to put screws and small components.

Allowed me to do some laptop repairs safely and the compartments for the screws came in very handy (until I blew them all away with the compressed air I was using, but that's on me). Those who complained about the smell of the mat - I experienced that only upon opening it for the first time and it dissipated very quickly, so that was never a factor for me.Good price for what this is. Would recommend.

Thought for sure such a cheap product would not actually be conductive, especially for "silicone", but it is! Checked with a proper 500 volt mega-ohm meter, it reads 20-100 megaohms depending on distance and contact surface area etc. It also holds up to a 400C soldering iron for at least a few seconds, I didn't push it.It does have a faint odor when first pulled out of the packaging. I assume its whatever additives they need to put into it to make it conductive (simply adding graphite in silicone would not work) and more heat resistant than normal silicone.

I like the product. It works well. However, you better have an outlet on top of your workspace. The wires are only around 2 feet long (-ish) and since your wrist strap AND pad both have to plug into the grounder; you have to be that close to an outlet. There are any number of improvements they could have done/could do at minimal cost that would make this a much better option. If the wires had more coil in them to allow more flex, that would help. If they could make the wires at least 5 or 6 feet (or include some kind of extension) with a moderate flex; it would be much better. As it is, you MAY get that if you want to pull on the wires as much as you can and risk pulling it from the outlet (negating the grounding effect) or irreparably stretching them. What is here just doesn't give you much length to work with.If your work area fits the bill, this does well. If not, you're better off just getting a strap and saving some money and frustration.

It's been a great mat for me so far. The material has been pretty heat resistant and has done it's job fine. I got this mat specifically for the wall plug grounding ability, that's a pretty decent addition. It did smell a bit funky out of the box but that's dissipated after a week. Also, stuff REALLY likes to stick to it, like dust and solder and whatnot, but I supposed most silicone mats are going to be like this. Just get a can of air and some rubbing alcohol to clean it every once in a while, but DO NOT use paper towels, as it will flake off and get absolutely stuck to the mat. I made a slight modification and bought a $3 whiteboard at the dollar store and cut it into pieces small enough to fit into the squares so that I can label where the screws came from, I got the idea as the iFixit mat works almost like a whiteboard, so I wanted to add that onto this one for the little compartments. It's been invaluable in helping me remember what came from where. Not much else to say, maybe that the wall outlet cable and the wrist strap are coiled, I absolutely despise coiled cables like that, but maybe some will appreciate that? I don't know, but I won't take a point off as I think that might just be a subjective opinion.

It does what its supposed to do, but if you are like me and have everything in black, maybe consider adding some colour into your life as things like tiny black screws can hide in plain sight. I will probably order another in a different colour just for that reason.

I only ended up keeping the anti static wristband and other components, because the mat had a strangely sweet scent to them and made me fingers feel odd. I had to wash my hands, because it felt like some substance was rubbing off on them. Even after washing the mat under hot water could I not get rid of the smell and feeling.I'm not sure if that's normal and you're supposed to wear gloves when handling the mat, but I just don't feel right handling it or keeping it nearby. I do hope it's not toxic to inhale.

false advertisement - it is a Heat Resistant mat, but NOT an Anti Static at all!
