Usually a mat like this would be seen as being pretty durable. I am not so sure this one is. The silicone backing of course should be just fine, but it’s the printed surface material that poses a problem. As soon as I gripped the mat to pull it out from its packaging I heard and felt some crackling sounds. At first I thought, that’s weird, maybe it’s just sticking to the wrapper or something. Then as I let it sort of fold in half from my fingers and hang free as I tossed the wrap aside I could feel it even more. That’s when I looked and noticed the surface material had many cracks in it. So if you bend the thing more than ninety degrees over a short area, expect it to crack like crazy!! Otherwise, it smells pretty bad too and needs to really air out.If you want to deal with waiting for a terrible smell to wear off and the potential for the printed surface to fracture like crazy then go ahead and get it. It is a pretty neat little reference pad, but now I’m wondering how long the surface is going to last before it starts falling off as it cracks more.

I've been teaching students how to solder and work with electronic components for a decade and I can NEVER remember resistor color codes. This mat solves that problem and more! I absolutely love the vibrant colors, the information about electrical components, and the high-quality "feel". I've even held my soldering iron on it for longer than I should and it holds up great. I recommend it to everyone I meet, including you, internet strangers!

This soldering mat will protect your workbench and provided you with resistor color codes at a glance.

I received this in the mail and it was folded in half which left permanent wrinkles down the center. It’s a cool idea but if it cant handle being folded during shipping, I don’t think it’ll hold up when heat contacts the surface. For now it’s being used as a placemat on top of a floor speaker which im running some lava lamps on to see how it does.

This mat is a little small for my liking for most work. It does have very handy markings on it to remind me about various components and sits on my solder workstation. Overall its a fine mat for basic work but a larger size would be recommended.

I solder a lot for my side business, and this mat comes in very handy when I need to look up resistors, capacitors, or other values. It is well made and even has a little foam bottom. It would be great to offer a larger mat with more things related to electronics, but I am very happy with this unit. Thank you.

While the mat itself is silicon, the printed surface is made out of some kind of heat resistant plastic. This means when bent, folded, or rolled too tightly that the surface will crack. You can audibly hear a crackling noise as you bend it, which is very disconcerting. Luckily, these cracks are not very noticeable once the mat is laid flat again. As far as the silicon mat itself, It works nicely for catching loose solder and when brushed with a soldering iron has not melted or burnt (still would not recommend leaving the solder iron resting against it or anything). The diagrams and cheat sheet part is interesting and occasionally helpful (mostly for the resistor color table).Overall it's much better than the (definitely not heat resistant) cutting mat I was using previously, but just be careful when bending
