Have bought this product several times. Appears to give accurate salt readings. Easy to use and read. A bit costly if you want to measure salt levels often, suggest buying a TDS reader and bench-marking salt levels to TDS. You can use the TDS daily and only use this salt sticks every few weeks when you think the salt levels are dropping or the rebenchmark against the TDS reader.

My salt system kept indicating low salt. We had some rain and had to drain the pool a bit, then some drought and had to fill with the hose, so it was expected to need to top off the salt. I calculated the amount I needed based on the control box's salt reading and added it, only to find that it barely went up. I got suspicious as I know a failing T-Cell will often read low salt due to the plates failing and not pulling current, which is how the system calculates salt levels (It doesn't really check salt, it just compares the amperage pulled at the current temperature and salt level and calculates it).My salt strips were 4 years old and no longer worked so I ordered a fresh batch and found my pool to be at 3700 PPM, which is at the upper end of normal. That confirmed my T-cell is no longer calculating current. Some say you can clean it in diluted muriatic acid to clean the plates and restore it, but mine is a generic cell and is 4 years old which is about the lifespan of these in Florida where it runs 365 days a year. I fell for it once and didn't double check the salt level and ended up having way too much in the pool when I finally figured out the cell failed, so I had to drain a bunch of water and then refill to dilute it back down to a safe level for the new cell. I wasted several bags of salt and hundreds or maybe thousands of gallons of water, so having test strips to verify the levels is a must. Hope this saves others from my mistakes:-)

Directions on the bottle are not sufficient. I am not certain about the directions in the enclosed product information sheet since I discarded the sheet after reading it. Whatever the explanation, I used the strips incorrectly and added too much salt to the pool while the strips still indicated "low salt" levels (2,200). The water tasted very salty. I bought the Hach Digital meter which indicated that the salt level was over 6,600 parts per million. Contacted my pool man, he watched me use the strip and gave me the following instructions. 1. Use a small narrow water sample container (similar to found in many test kits) so that the test strip cannot float to a horizontal position. 2. take your water sample from at least 8 inches below the surface of the pool. 3. fill the sample container to a level below the top of the test strip. The horizontal bar at the top of the test strip should not be in the water. My mistake was the submerge the test strip in water such that the bar across the top was under water. 4. wait 10 minutes. 5. used in this fashion, the test strip agreed with the digital meter. ALMOST NONE OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE ON THE BOTTLE ! When used in this fashion, the test strips work correctly and agree with the digital meter. 4 OUT OF 5 BECAUSE THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE BOTTLE DO NOT WORK. Hope this helps.

Works great -- just follow the directions! My chlorine generator stopped due to Low Salt warning. Used these strips, which, after doing the math, indicated I needed to add 3-4 bags of salt. Added 2 bags (being cautious), waited a day and the Low Salt indicator turned off, but then would sometimes come back on. Third bag of salt did the trick. No more warnings. Next day used another strip and got 2770 ppm - right at low end of recommended range. These strips worked perfectly for me.Note that the translation scales on the bottles are different based on manufacturing lot. A 5.8 reading on the strip can translate to different salt ppm levels based on manufacturing deviations. By custom printing tables on the bottle by lot number, the manufacturer compensates for those variances to yield an accurate reading. Very smart. Also note to the Aug 2015 reviewer who claimed it reported very low readings (

It seemingly does its job. After leaving the strip in 1” water, trying to determine the ppm line is a problem. There is only fading of colors, so you just pick one I guess.

Strips work perfectly out of the box and you get a result within 5 minutes in just two fingers of water. Combine your result with an online calculator (to measure your pool volume) and you'll know how much salt to add to your pool. Simple, easy, and saves a lot of time versus going to a store for a test...or buying a more complicated solution.
