Some reviews mentioned it only works for larger nuts like walnuts but I've tested it with pistachios and it works just as well. Therefore I won't need separate crackers.The only thing is you have to develop a technique for only gently crushing pistachios so they don't explode out of your hand. A gentle pressure is enough to crack a closed pistachio that you can then open with your hand.Otherwise, I suggest creating a box with your other hand around the unit as you crack with the other hand, so that if too much pressure was applied and the nut cracked into pieces, it doesn't shoot around and easier to collect.

I have used this little set in every room, in every craft I do, in my kitchen, sewing room, stained glass studio, artwork, jewelry making and anywhere else I happen to be. The cracker can be pliers or bottle opener or weight or hammer or Whatever. The picks? Endless!!!wh
