About this item

  • With removable 2 inch adapter both fit for standard 1.25 inch diameter and 2 inch diameter; red laser collimation beam with 7 brightness levels; wavelength 635-655 nm; output power less than 5mw; can swiftly and precisely collimate Newtonian telescope
  • Built with metal material; CR2032 Lithium Cell battery Not include; accurate collimation in a few minutes provide a more clearer image; the telescope can be collimated by just one person
  • Laser unit has a front opening from which the laser beam can be emitted; a side window allow a disk oriented at 45° with a central hole to be viewed for optimal adjustment; then later be used to see whether the laser is reflected back on itself
  • This adjustment tool can be used in all 1.25 inch focusers; provide with precise instructions in German and English about how to adjust Newtonian telescope using this laser unit; simple to get optimum performance out of telescope
  • The laser comes fully adjusted however further adjust if required; it has three openings for adjustment; arranged at 120°; which are initially sealed; small screw cap at the rear of the laser must be first unscrewed to allow this

Product Description

1

The Laser Collimator allows you to swiftly and precisely collimate your Newtonian telescope. Only when the optics have been accurately collimated can the telescope offer you its full performance. It designed specifically for collimating the optics of Newtonian reflectors.

It has a side window that allows viewing of a 45° disk with a center hole. This canbe used later to see if the laser is reflected back toitself.

5

Red laser collimation beam with 7 brightness levels, wavelength 635-655nm; Output power: less than5mw, much safer for your eyes.

6

If it can be further adjusted if required, it has three openings holes for aligning adjustment by 2mm Hex Wrench (Not Included).

7

Unscrew the rear cover with your barehands, although it is designed with anti-slip knurling. You can use your belongings to open it.

It came in a box and secure. The laser was very helpful to collimate the telescope. The laser itself was accurately aligned from the factory by testing it on my laser collimator testing setup. On target 4 foot away spinning it al around and ensuring the laser beam did not stay away of the bullseye.

I purchased this collimator, but was surprised that it did not include a battery. After reading the fine print on the Amazon website, I found that a battery was not included. After finding a CR 2032, I tried to install the battery, but found it was a hard fit. The retaining ring was very tight, and made it hard to screw down the battery screw plate. The paper work that came with the collimator did not indicate the battery type. Except for the battery problem, I found that the Laser Collimator work in collimating my 6 inch Celestron DOB. The adjustable laser brightness worked well with a setting of 3.

I bought this collimator because the laser itself can be alligned. In the images on amazon you can see allen screws towards the end of the collimator. This is so you can allign the laser, (make sure that it points true) so you can accurately collumate the mirrors.Essentially this device will require occasional callibration and more frequently, verification of alignment before collimation.I was annoyed that they covered the allen screws with silicone with the one I got. I understand why, to act as a light thread locker. It only took a couple minutes to remove though. If your curious how to verify and allign the laser, I would suggest looking up some videos on youtube. Some advice though, a cheap engineers V-block to use for allignment would be the simplest method.Don't let that scare you, alligning the laser is essentially the same principle of collimation, except now you get to do it twice! When calibrated though, this does make collimation drastically more intuitive, meaning it is worth that little extra effort in maintaining the tool.

I didn't have to collimate it. It was already collimated.

Device appears to be sturdy and well-made. The CR2032 battery was easy to install, and the laser itself was easy to use. I installed it in the 1.25" eyepiece slot on my 6" Orion Dobsonian, following the guidance from Orion's YouTube video on how to do laser alignment with their telescopes. I had never collimated my telescope before. Despite being badly out of alignment, the process only took a few minutes to align the primary and secondary mirror. It's so easy I will definitely just check the mirror alignment every time now before using the telescope. If there is one nitpick, it is that I did not find the paper instructions included that helpful on their own. But combined with the Orion YouTube video, it was very straight forward.

Didn't come with a battery as advertised. There must be one company in China that makes these things and a dozen companies that slap their names on them. The laser is still weak which is disappointing. It was advertised as brighter and crisper... I dont see it. Even with a fresh Energizer battery. Well never hurts to have a spare when you have several scopes but temper your expectations.

I checked the calibration when I received it due to U-tube videos about all lasers. The item came calibrated. I have used it many times now. It’s one of the best investments that I have made. Every time I bump my scope, I’ll recheck it. It has worked flawlessly and is still in calibration. It’s well made and beefy. It’s just what I had hoped for!

I bought this to align my 130mm Skywatcher I picked up on Craigslist.I found that the unit works just as described and I found it very easy to use. But then I calibrate microscopes for a living.I can't imagine that anyone couldn't figure out how to use this very simple calibration tool.I also can't imagine how you can use your telescope without knowing if its mirrors are aligned properly. My only gripe is I wish they would tell you in the instructions what type/size battery it takes. You can youtube all kinds of videos on how to use it.
