Regular finderscopes are a pain sometimes. It is hard to see the cross hairs so a red dot finder is just great for quickly locating a bright star, planet or the Moon. Though made of plastic it accomplishes the task with no problem. There are adjustments for vertical and horizontal, that's good! I setup up my scope in daylight hours, put on the red dot finder, look through the scope at an object sufficiently far away, then adjust the vertical and horizontal control knobs on the red dot to align with that object. Now I am ready to go for night time finding and observation. There is brightness control so you can increase/decrease the brightness to your eye so that you can see the star or planet. This comes with a standard Vixen-style "shoe" that is common for most telescopes. JUST REMEMBER TO TURN THE FINDER OFF after you have located your night sky object... CR2032 batteries will deplete if you don't, obviously. I keep a supply of these batteries on hand just in case. It does not come with the CR2032 battery... but they said so in the ad, so no problem! If they included it then it would be likely that it would be near death upon arrival, so get yourself some fresh ones and don't complain about it.

Personally, I prefer the red dot finder scope. This scope works work in my SVBony 503 70ED refractor scope! This finder scope works great and for the price, you can't go wrong with it. Make sure you put a CR2032 battery. However, since SVBony 503 70ED is a OTA, you will also need to purchase a dove tail separately. I use the SVBONY Universal Dovetail Base.

The mounting base slid nicely right into the dovetail that's cast into my Celestron Powerseeker 80EQ's focuser housing. I luckily found a metric setscrew for the 'scopes dovetail housing in my spare parts can.The Red Dot was a bit fussy to get adjusted as the Up-Down and Left-Right knobs are clunky, but they eventually worked and I got everything lined up, then I put a bit of tape over them to keep me from accidentally moving them in the dark while feeling for the power switch. The power switch works positively and adjusts the brightness of the dot smoothly. The dot made finding things in the scope's eyepiece a cinch! No instructions in the box, so of course I installed the CR2032 battery upside down the first time and the dot would not come on. Flipped it over so the + side of the battery was towards the clip side and all was good.I'm very happy with the Red Dot finder so far and think it is a vast improvement to the finder that came with my telescope. Now we'll see how long this Red Dot keeps working...Thanks Astromania!

As it says in the headline, it's a cheap and functional product, and accurate enough for aligning short focal length optics, but I would almost rule this out for anything other than pointing at planets or the brightest of stars. When performing a 3-star alignment, sometimes the brightest stars are not accessible due to local horizon limits (trees), and even at the lowest brightness setting the red dot completely covers up dimmer stars, forcing you to do a little dance of looking through the red dot, then to the side, and back again to see if you're truly aligned. I've owned a Telrad and some gun reflex sights, and they can be dimmed much further than this "starpointer".TLDR; for casual or terrestrial use it's ok, for actual telescope alignment, find something better -- it's too bright.

I was exited about using a red dot finder for my Celestron EQ127. This scope finder was a major disappointment. Even after using many different batteries it would it power up. Save yourself the trouble and get a different brand.

Works very well, no issues with it. Does not come with a battery. Once powered on and aligned, don't leave it on ! Be aware that generally there are two different (plastic) mount shapes, this one fits all my SVbony telescope thumbscrew mounts.

After installing a dovetail mount on my telescope, I needed to replace my old, substandard finderscope. This red-dot finderscope fits the bill, and I can safely say that it does the job. If you're new to astronomy, my advice is to watch a YouTube video or two on how to align the finderscope with your telescope. My Orion telescope came with one of these red-dot finder scopes; unfortunately, both the plastic mount and the finder scope were of such poor quality that it made it almost impossible to use it accurately. Yes, I can recommend this finderscope.

Très bon assistant pour télescope, je l'ai acheté pour remplacer celui fourni avec le télescope parce qu'il est tellement plus simple à enligner, de plus il est plus abordable ici. Je le recommande !

The laser finder died on my son's az 70 celestron telescope. This is a direct replacement. Works exactly like the original.
