My old horn stopped working and the plastic cover had become brittle and broke off at the mounts. So I thought it best to eliminate the plastic when I replace the horn. I decided to mount it in the rope locker. The mount on the horn is designed to mount on a stringer I guess, the mount comes out in the middle of the horn so it does not lay flat. I took a piece of starboard 4" x 3/4" x 3/4" mounted the horn to it. Then screwed the starboard to the fiberglass with the horn in side the rope locker. It is plenty loud and nicely protected. Very happy.

This is the same as the horn that I put in my boat 30 years ago. I could use the same mounting.
