If, on the other hand, you were, like me, the unsuspecting victim of a gift of an inferior device, or if you are doing your research before committing to a tool that should only need to be purchased once in a lifetime, let me recommend this model.Recently I had the good fortune of snapping the corkscrew off of my limberjack, so I am now the thoroughly satisfied owner of the Barvio corkscrew. This tool which cost less on Amazon that a used Ripple wine bottle on E-bay has restored the ritual of opening a bottle of wine to its rightful place. “How is this possible?” you may rightfully ask. Surely the designers took their cue from the Japanese Tea Service, which is a thing of beauty in its entirety, because this tool is just gorgeous.The central shaft is a full quarter inch of stainless steel. Actually it is a virtually seamless lamination of three layers, the two outer layers capture the substantial tang of the corkscrew. The fit and finish of each layer is remarkably good, especially considering the price. The screw itself is powerfully built and features a pronounced grove along the entire helix. This insure both a secure bite in the cork but also make it easier to insert. This is especially useful with the new synthetic corks, which are denser than their natural counterparts. When held fully open, the screw rest comfortably between your index and center fingers. The main shaft of the opener is shaped with a recess for your index finger on one side of the screw and a similar curve for your middle finger on the opposite side. The remainder of the main shaft and the rosewood scales are machined to accept the last two fingers. So, when held naturally, the entire device is in an optimal position to comfortably set the tip of the screw into the cork, and the powerfully built shaft offers plenty of leverage to drive screw deeply and accurately into the cork.The two stage jack section is equally well built and features an attractive diamond checkering pattern. The longer section, which is used to give the tool the added reach it needs to remove even the most recalcitrant cork is nested neatly within the main jack section. This design places a double layer of steel on each side of the main shaft, thus creating a joint more than 3/8” thick, where all the stress of the tool is focused. The extension section is machined with a convenient recess that makes it easier for you to position the main jack on the lip of the bottle.Lastly the blade, which is serrated on one side and is used to cut the foil seal is very sharp and well made. It has a sturdy two stage spring for added safety which holds the blade securely into the body of the opener when not in use.All this attention to detail in of all these components is reflected in the careful assembly of these parts into such a visually appealing form that one would be tempted to miss the reality that the makers surely began this design process with the understanding that form follows function, and that this device serves two separate functions. First, it easily removes corks from wine bottles, but secondly, and more importantly, it turns the opening a bottle wine from an irritating semi-successful struggle into a distinctly pleasant ritual. You will begin drinking your wine in a state of pleasant satisfaction, ready to appreciate whatever nuances your particular choice in wines has to offer. So, no matter if you are drinking your everyday value bottle or that exceptional vintage you have been saving for a special event, it will taste better because of this opener.

Just recently received this product, but already I can't say enough good things about it and the company. First, it just looks and feels like a quality piece. I had been using an Ah So cork puller for nearly 30 years and, when it suddenly broke about two weeks ago, I started researching replacement options. I love quality, classic designs, and I thought about maybe getting a Laguiole corkscrew as a replacement but, as I had no previous experience with that type of corkscrew and Laguioles seemed a little pricey, I decided to look for an alternative on Amazon. The Barvivo corkscrew description instantly caught my eye because of its reference to Danish design (which I associate with quality and functionality), and the price seemed right, so I quickly ordered one. It arrived within a couple of days and, upon opening the box, I was immediately impressed with its heft and quality feel. I couldn't wait to give it a try and, even though I had never used one before and had no prior instruction in its use, I was able to open a bottle quickly and with little effort.One thing I did notice about my new corkscrew, however, was that there was what appeared to be a minor finishing flaw in one of the rosewood side panels. Nothing major and certainly nothing that affected its function but, to my OCD eyes, at least, it was a flaw nonetheless. It appeared that the rosewood staining on one half of one of the panels was incomplete, as if the applicator's brush was a little light on stain as he/she was brushing that particular panel. In other words, one half of the panel was nicely stained and the other half was very lightly stained. I could have lived with it -- and was going to -- but, right before going to bed, I decided to send off an e-mail to the Barvivo e-mail address printed on the box, just for the heck of it.I was very pleasantly surprised the next morning to see a reply e-mail from Martin, one of the company owners, in my in-box. He apologized for the flawed panel, took full responsibility for the issue, and said that he would send a new corkscrew out to me right away ... and said that I could keep the old one. Sure enough, I received my new corkscrew yesterday (within 5 days of his e-mail), and it is perfect. I immediately used it to open another bottle of wine, which I enjoyed with dinner !The great, great majority of Amazon customer reviews on this product are 5-star, and I can see why. It is a quality product, at a fair price, from a company that clearly prides itself on customer service. I couldn't be happier. I see myself ordering a Barvivo muddler in the very near future !

#1 Best Seller in Bottle Openers. Others and myself can see why. This isn't a entry level corkscrew, but is easy enough to be used as one. I use these at our places of business and for personal use at home and on the go. All my other corkscrews have been forgotten and are collecting dust. I first saw one held by a stranger and knew I had to get one for myself. Makes wine bottle opening a breeze and something easy to do, the groved feature on the screw worked well with me opening old crumbley corks and preventing it from ashing and breaking into my wine. It has thick heavy steel metal with a good center balanced weight which goes to the center of the piece in its open formation. The wood looks classy and makes the presentation of opening a bottle of wine an experience. I carry one everywhere I go, with a bottle opener for caps, I use it for beer, soda, or any kind of bottle that needs opening this will do it. The double hinge works well with those bottles of wine with really long corks. This corkscrew has a firm feeling when you open or use any feature of the corkscrew which requires opening, the knife, screw, hinges, etc and you can tell it truly is quality. I am also extremely pleased with the coowners/customer experience of this brandname and felt truly appreciated in doing business with them and will be returning for sure.

Have had this product for several years now and it is my go to opener especially if I have and older special wine. With the double "worm" it is less like to break the cork and more forgiving.Really fine product and I have bought several for my fellow "wine snobs" who are also big fans. Great product!

I say investment because it does cost a bit more than other items, however the quality is 100% there. I purchased 2 a few years go and still have them and I've never experience any issues, they are very well made. My dad had an opener that broke recently, so I bought him one of these and he's loving it. I highly recommend this product.

On opening the Barvivo corkscrew, I was quite taken aback by the quality of the device. It is beautifully manufactured and finished. The machining of the stainless steel parts is excellent, the rivets look solid, and the fit and finish of the trim is beautiful. The moving parts 'click' nicely into place, giving the feeling of quality.The contouring is ergonomic, and feels comfortable to use; the corskrew is well-engineered and screws easily into the cork. The two stage 'fulcrum' is simple and natural to use and the lever is comfortable in the hand.In summary, this is a beautiful looking, well designed, and ergonomic device that is obviously the result of thoughtful design and made by people who genuinely care about quality. If I didn't know otherwise and were given one of these, I would have thought it cost around £30-£40. Highly recommended - if you're thinking of buying one, stop thinking and do it. You will not be disappointed.
