Soooo tired of hearing the husband complain about the bed being cold... This is analog so I was able to use it with a smart plug and now it's on a timer to automatically come on. Since it does have an auto shutoff I have it programed to shut off then back on within 5 minutes then a final shut off at a predetermined time in the morning. No more complaining so it was a good investment.

As a result of lowering the house heating temperature to 60 F, to save energy and money, I have run into a hitch which has turned into a problem. My hands and especially my feet, often, but not always, get cold toward the late evening. Now, most of the time, for most of my waking hours, just wearing snug, warmer clothes is comfy. That is how I decided 60 F was OK. The hitch is NOT that I have the sense that my feet are cold. On the contrary, most of the time I don't notice my feet are cold, unless I put my feet against warm hands, for instance. Then my hands feel my feet as icy. If my hands are cold, they feel icy against my face. And my hands or my feet do not readily return to warm after they have gone cold. The problem is that when I get in bed, under my thick, snug blanket, my feet soon begin to have the sensation of being icy cold, and they will not feel or get warm, even though the rest of me is, for about an hour and a half. I can't get to sleep before that. I have been accepting this for several winters, but it occurred to me, browsing Amazon one day, that some kind of local heat would be the solution, and would be cheap to operate. The added heat of this heated mattress pad gets my recalcitrant feet back to warm fast enough that I get to sleep in approximately the same amount of time as in the warm seasons. But since I am comfy warm without the pad heat at that point, and I sleep more soundly without extra heat, for reasons unknown to me, I really need the pad to turn off after I am snoozing. Since this pad has an analog controller, you can use it freely with a timer (Tork 401A at Amazon), one of those 24 hour ones for putting lights on and off to keep thieves from noticing a house is vacant. Since my sleeping hours drift a bit, I use the timer differently. I just picked an hours time of "on" permanently, and twist the dial to that segment a few minutes before bedtime. I have to remember to unplug the next morning, so it won't go back on at a time that I might not be going to bed. Electricity is currently charged, in this area, at roughly 13 cents per kilowatt hour. The pad pulls less than 100 watts, or a tenth of a kilowatt, so my added electric cost per day is less than 1.3 cents. If I left it on for ten hours, it would still be only 13 cents. I confess that I now actually enjoy going to bed with icy feet, because it feels so good when they are warming up. I think it is the same effect as enjoying food more when you are really hungry.

This is a review for 3 bed heating products all of which I have used for 6 months+1st choice:Biddeford Heated Mattress Pad, Queen 2nd choice:Soft Heat Electric Blanket, Queen 3rd choice:Sunbeam Electric Blanket, Queen I get cold at night, so I have slept with an electric blanket for most of my life. I used the Sunbeam blanket for 3 years before buying the mattress pad and the soft heat blanket 6 months ago.I washed the Sunbeam blanket 3 times over those 3 years, and on the 3rd wash it stopped working well. It still puts out heat, but the heat is patchy and inconsistent.I was also cold when I slept over at my boyfriend’s place, so I bought him the soft heat electric blanket which was great. He begrudgingly used the blanket for 6 months before getting fed up with the cords. I had bought myself the Biddeford mattress pad, to supplement my inconsistent sunbeam blanket, so I swapped my boyfriend’s blanket with the mattress pad. The hidden cords made him much happier. Here are my comments about each product:Biddeford mattress pad:Wow, I had no idea how great a mattress pad was. It doesn’t move around or slide off the bed and you don’t have to deal with cords at the end of the blanket. They’re also much cheaper.Pros:Doesn’t slide off the bed or move aroundFewer cords (you can hide the cords under the mattress)AffordableCons:The Biddeford one feels cheap, I might recommend one that is more expensiveSoft heat electric blanket:Pros:SoftWires are very small and almost imperceptibleUses an adjustment dial that can be adjusted easilyCons:ExpensiveCords are annoyingDoesn’t get very hotSunbeam blanket:Pros:Extremely softGets really hotHas a preheat function that puts the blanket on high for the first 10 minutes or soCons:Did not survive its 3rd washCords are annoyingUses a push button electric controller that requires you to be somewhat awake to adjust

Review of- Biddeford 5904-908221-100 Electric Heated Mattress Pad, White, Cal KingI have a California King sized bed. I bought a Biddeford California King sized electric mattress pad, and to put it simply- it doesn’t fit. It doesn’t come close to fitting when installed as directed, and according to the instructions there’s only one approved orientation, with the plugs at the foot of the bed. The platform and mattress, made by different manufacturers, fit like a hand in glove, as they should because the size was standardized more than half a century ago. But if you try to shoehorn the mattress into the electric mattress pad’s skirt it’s so tight that it distorts the mattress to the point where it no longer fits the platform and the pad won’t lay flat. This makes it utterly unusable.Even worse, the material the skirt is made from is so flimsy that while trying to stretch it over the mattress I ran my finger through it accidentally, and without much effort. This makes it far weaker than any cloth I’ve ever come across, at least new cloth. So not only is it the wrong size, the materials chosen are also sub-par. You’d think if they were going to go super cheap on the material they would at least use enough. In short, either by design, or multiple failures of quality control, Biddeford is selling a product that can’t be used for its intended purpose.

We love it but wished we had ordered one where you could heat different parts of the body. This has 10 settings but heats the whole side. On our king there is a control for each of us

The pad is shape like a bed sheet,it clings to the mattress,i did not expect this as per their catalog picture.Setting it on no 1 setting, keeps the mattress not cold,(its in the basement)no more back pain in the morning. My first blanket lasted for 40 years, the second one ,not so much 3 years (sunbean)Hope this one last forever,I like it,i recommend it.Bye,Lucien
