On my '00 Kawasaki Vulcan EN500 LTD, because of the chin piece of my modular helmet, I cannot always see the speedometer without taking my eyes off the road. So, I read that a tachometer mounted on the handlebars, once you get used to it, can tell you everything you need to know about what speed and what gear you're in (another of my issues since I can barely hear the engine at speed). I originally ordered one of those cheap ($15) tachs thinking, "what the heck, for $15, I'll give it a shot." Spent a good portion of the day getting (jury-rigged) mounting hardware and wiring and connectors and everything I'd need for the installation. Got it all installed and... nuthin. The light came on but, the needle didn't move a millimeter. I tried several different wiring tactics, still nuthin. So, I returned it and was promptly refunded (thank you Amazon). Did a little more research and came upon this unit. Now, I've been confused about single fire vs. dual fire and which my '00 Vulcan 500 is but, this tach was a reasonable price, and I knew they'd take it back if it didn't work so, I ordered it. I have two coils but, I believe they fire at the same time (wasted fire). Within 10 minutes it was connected and working - no adapters needed. Another 10 minutes and it was completely installed using the INCLUDED mounting hardware (yay) and I was taking it for a test ride. I've had it on the bike for about 5 days now and took it for a three-hour ride the other day. Not a single issue. The needle is steady and the reading, as far as I can tell, is accurate... or, at least it's accurate enough for me to know that vital speed and gear information. I will update if anything goes awry.My next step is to attach some LEDs to the face of the unit that mirror my temp, oil, and turn signal indicators (that I also cannot see while riding).

Great fit for my 1999 Kawasaki Vulcan 500. The bike is a dual fire system so this tach works well! There were 4 wires that came off of it. I had to crimp automotive wire to the existing wires since there wasn't enough extension on them. The instructions were very simple. One of the wires I crimped a small male spade connector to and place under the female spade connector that connects into the ignition coil. Simply connect the female spade connector to the ignition coil and power is tapped without a loss in current! Its also easy to fix or remove the tachometer this way. Two power wires I crimped together and hooked them up to the rear brake light wire under the seat. The negative wire I hooked to a free ground wire under the seat. Very easy and simple and now I have a great looking and functional tach!
