I take my kids to the gym and we climb outside regularly. We own 6 of these for all the kids and us. They are so simple and cost nothing compared to the rest of the climbing gear. Great value. Never had an issue and will last a lifetime.

This is typical Black Diamond quality, very good. And, for most folks doing some semi routine belaying on a 9mm plus static rope, it is probably all you really need. For ropes less than 9mm diameter the friction can be a bit lacking. Ribbed Belay devices would be a better choice for those ropes.
