I have had other bulb planters in the past, both short and tall. The tall ones can sure save one's back from aching, but there has always been a drawback or two that I did not like. Usually, after making the hole, there is the problem of getting the earth out of the planter, requiring one to push it out. If the earth is soft enough not to need this, it's too loose to stay in the tool, staying in the ground instead. Another issue, less common, is the planter staying in the ground due to suction.When I received this, I was unsure of its strength as it comes in three pieces. I hate wobbly tools, and multiple pieces can be an indication this could be a distinct possibility. The next thing I noticed was that the metal was heavy. The bottom is actually two pieces--one piece rises as the tool is pushed into the ground (a foot piece gives lereage to do this), which is then pushed down to release the dirt when desired. The side of the serrated cup is open on one side, which prevents the suction issue. When I began putting it together, I realized it comes with two L-socket wrenches, three bolts, and three nuts. You'll only need two bolt/nut sets, the other set is extra, just in case. There are no words on the directions, just simple, detailed instructions. This was very well-thought out. I put it together. It is perfect. And it doesn't wobble. Five stars.

Easy to use, easy to clear out, and no bending over! This went together with two bolts, couldn't have been quicker. Push it in to the ground, plant your bulb, then step on the bar to push the dirt back into the hole. It doesn't feel flimsy, it should last quite a long time. It's not great for making sure you're getting an exact depth, but it's easy on your back.

As I am getting older, I need some gardening tools that will make it easier on my back when planting my vegetables. This will definitely do the trick. Being able to stay standing and make the holes for my plants will definitely save my back from the constant up and down and bending. This will also be more efficient because I can just walk along and make all of the holes at once and then drop the seeds or the started plants into the hole. I like the fact that as you push down into the dirt that there is a separate metal bar that lifts up. When you are done making the hole, just use your foot to push the bar down and remove the dirt. Makes life a lot easier. This also comes with an extra bolt and nut as well as two tools to tighten. Great product for this aging man.

This is a heavy duty bulb planter tool for tilled or wet or non-compacted soil. Don't expect to be able to use it to punch a hole in dried and compacted dirt. The planter tool is assembled by attaching two bolts with lock washers to the 3 piece handle. The operation is done by stepping on the lower foot pedal only, an not stepping on the upper foot pedal that needs to slide upward as the tool drives into the ground. A hole can be dug in the soil with the arms. Alternatively, a hole can be easily created with the foot and body weight by using this tool.
