Bully Tools American ash spades utilize the curved wood handle design preferred by contractors. Wood handles have less give, but are just as strong as our fiberglass handles. All Bully Tools spades have a closed back design that prevents debris getting stuck while digging. The spades also have extra thick 12 gauge steel. The extended ferrule increases strength while prying. In testing, the steel spade head bends before the handle breaks in both wood and fiberglass models!

Heavy duty, solid construction but...I've used this shovel for 2.5 years now and while digging out a bush today, the metal snapped about 3 inches in from the side. I've broken handles before and bent a shovel at the neck (socket) but never had metal snap. I have submitted a warranty request so I'm sure they will make right on it but still, I'm out a shovel for a bit. It is made in USA so thats great but i've had other tools do more for less for alot longer.

Well built and solid tool, but the quality control needs to be slightly better (my shovel came with a chip on the digging edge) and I sure wished it was sharpened from the factory.I had to break out my angle grinder (good thing I bought one a few weeks back) to put an edge on the shovel. While I was at it I took enough metal off the edge to grind away the chip/manufacturing defect.

This tool will last for a long time. It is very, very sturdy and strong. It's no lightweight but it really gets the job done.

I have a Bully Tools "regular" shovel that I've been impressed with. I was looking to get an spade shovel and looked again to Bully. This shovel has a nice ash handle and a d-grip handle to give me more control. Build quality seems to be good as well, as I found no pits, excess welds, burs, etc. The shovel came well sharpened and cuts through my sod in no time.
