Bully Tools American ash shovels utilize the curved wood handle design preferred by contractors. Wood handles have less give, but are just as strong as our fiberglass handles. All Bully Tools shovels have a closed back design that prevents debris getting stuck while digging. We use true 14 gauge steel, which is thicker than what is typically marketed as 14 gauge. The extended ferrule and welded I-beam support increases strength while prying. In testing, the steel shovel head bends before the handle breaks in both wood and fiberglass models!

Ordered this nice-sized, sturdy floral spade with D-handle in October of 2016. A great mid-sized shovel to get into tight spaces, and also works great as a camp shovel as it doesn't take up much space. This shovel was used on a nearly daily basis here in Southern California in a yard with heavy soil with a high clay content. This was definitely my wife's favorite shovel and she spends a good part of almost every day working in the yard. In September of 2020, the shovel developed a crack while digging out some plants, and looking back through my Amazon orders I found the product page and noticed it had a limited lifetime warranty. I contacted the company through their website at Bullytools.com and sent them a photo of the broken shovel and a copy of my Amazon receipt. They contacted me the next business day to verify my address and then Fedexed me a replacement free of charge - no questions asked. It's a pleasure doing business with a company like this that stands behind the quality of their products! They've changed the design slightly on the shovel head as you can see by the comparison photos - same gauge steel but more of it!

The first thing I noticed when I got this shovel was how much heavy gauge steel it was made from than I expected. It is sturdy and strong without being too heavy. I guess it is convenient for hanging the shovel on a hook or nail, but I don't particularly like having a hole drilled near theta of the shovel. The wooden handle is strong and the D-handle, though a bit bigger than I would expect, seems like it will last. I think this whole tool will last for a long and useful life. I bought his specially for those small jobs when digging plants out of a garden, small trees from my woods, etc. whenafull size shovel is overkill. I feel it was a good bargain and would recommend it.

Very well made but I was looking for a small shovel more like the favorite I used to have and used all the time. I wouldn't have ordered if I had noticed no free returns (was going to cost something like $22).

Perfect ! Just what I was looking for. Could not find locally at several different stores. Had a 50 year old similar shovel that finally wore out due to split in metal. Wanted to find a replacement that was just the right size. Not too large, not too small but "Just Right". This one is perfect and very well made. Hope to use it for at least the next 50 years !

Although the blade is not forged, but a "hollow back" casting, it is thick and seemingly very sturdy. That thickness, and the strength of the fibreglass handle, comes at a cost, though - the tool is far heavier than my previous floral shovel.

Great little shovel. I hate using a heavy full size shovel this one is perfect for planting my dahlias and other bulbs. Plus I like that it’s made in USA!
