Researched all the different options and decided to try this one. On most of the others the padding was either too thick, too thin or too soft. These have the perfect amount of dense padding to provide extra protection and still fit under a normal pair of snowboard pants. In addition the padding covers the entire hip area. All of the others had a pad for your tailbone and a separate pad for your hip with a big gap in between which BTW is exactly where you need it. Don't get me wrong they still feel like you are wearing a diaper but no getting around that. These also have a zippered front along with a Velcro closure.

I have another pair of padded shorts and the padding has gaps in certain areas. Oddly enough, when I fell in them, I would end up landing in the gaps and get big nasty bruises, as if I didn't have any protection at all. This product is very different. There are no gaps in the pads and I've fallen twice very hard and it really protected my butt as advertised. Plus the quality of the build and the material is top notch. The only con I have is that the shorts are hot, even on a cool day. It seems the material doesn't breath very well. But I'm afraid that if they change out the material to be breathable, it would be more expensive and maybe not be as durable as it is now. Oh, and there are lots of velcro and zippers all around to adjust the size to fit you snuggly. This product is definitely a keeper.

I recently upgraded to a new pair of quad skates (Bont) and tossed on really nice outdoor wheels and faster bearings. I tested the new set up out a few times around the cul-de-sac I live on and was really happy with everything. It was very different than what I was used to - the skates were heavier and the bearing/wheel combo was much faster than my previous set, but I was still really excited about taking them out for a real spin. I was skating on a jogging path and stopped for a minute to change the song on my phone. I didn't notice a patch of very fine gravel next to me until it was too late. I fell so hard on my butt that I couldn't move for several minutes. Thankfully, my husband was with me and helped me up and back to the car. It was such a bad fall that it's been almost two weeks and I still have enough pain in my glutes and upper hamstrings to make going up stairs a trial. After the fall, I decided it was time for me to break down and see if there was some sort of padding solution to protect my poor booty in the event that I fell again - especially until the new skates feel like a second pair of feet. I purchased three different pairs of padded shorts. One pair only protected the coccyx, which wouldn't have helped me at all in this fall. Another had padding everywhere, so they were super bulky (since I'm a little chunky, the last thing I needed was more bulk). This pair of BenKen shorts are absolutely perfect. I still can't go out and skate, but I do suspect these might be a bit bulky under most of my shorts/pants, but they are thick enough that I could also wear them by themselves. I can definitely put them on under a pair of loose fitting yoga pants. They aren't so bulky that they limit range of motion, but the padding is legit. I wish I'd been wearing them two weeks ago!!

I'm 5'4/5'5 and around 96 lbs... the small fits well over my jeans. It's maybe a bit loose if I wear them as shorts, because the butt seam is a couple inches too long for a skinny person like me. If benken made an xs I would order that, but over jeans it's perfect. It doesn't get in the way of my skating. The material appears to be high quality, and I've skated in them 5 times so far. No rips or snags. The material is like thick spandex.Padding: I am a complete beginner. The first time I fell while skating slowly over asphalt with protruding cracks, I didn't feel anything. However in my 4th session skating, I fell 3 times within an hour on asphalt and cement (while going fast and not knowing how to stop) and I felt the pain and impact. I was able to get up and continue, but up to 1-2 days after, when I sat down on the hard floor in my room on my tailbone and rocked a backward, I felt that my tailbone area had a little pain, enough to bother me. I felt fine sitting on other surfaces like chairs, etc.People are telling me that this is normal, and that a butt protective pad can't protect you 100%, it just cushions you... so I don't know how this compares to other pads. Three days later now my tailbone is fine, but I'm afraid of falling again.I will update my review when I have done more sessions.

I'm pretty disappointed with these. The quality feels great, but the sizing is way off. I got the large based off other reviews - poor decision on my behalf as these are almost too big for me, I'll have to just add layers underneath them. I feel like I'm wearing a diaper, they are not comfortable. Also, an odd aspect about them is the elastic part that fits around the thighs - it's remarkably tight. If I were to exchange them for a medium, I have a feeling my butt would fit, but my thunder thighs wouldn't.

True to size and fitted very well with some stretch allowance. There are adjustable velcro straps on both sides to help tighten the front of the waist area. I did not find them overly bulky and pretty discreet under loose clothing. Sufficiently padded to protect the coccyx and lower back but not so much the hips/thigh but i have some meat on my lower half for that. I use these for added security while I learn rollerskating outdoors.
