I bought the standard V-clamps and learned after using on my canoe with aluminum gunnels (& 1/2 inch depth underneath) that they come loose when raising the trolling motor a few times to remove weeds. Robert (the seller) appropriately warns users about this possibility and provides an email address with the shipment. I wrote to him, and he soon shipped a different clamp to use (one board, to sandwich the gunnels). I look forward to using it but I am impressed with Robert's response enough to write a review (never did that before) - I recommend buying from him.A follow-up: Robert shipped a solid-wood clamp for the underside of the mount. I tried it today and it worked like a champ. Stayed tight through multiple motor lifts and even running aground in hidden shallow waters. I used the original wing nuts as back-up but that was just for insurance. I'm quite happy. Thanks Robert!

The metal edges are sharp and protrude from the boat and could cause injury if someone were to grab while moving the boat or loading and unloading the boat. An easy fix is to get some rubber u channel to run on the edges. At 3/8 inch Aluminum I haven't found that size yet. It seems the closest is 5/16.Definitely, a product I like and need for my front trolling motor, but I am trying to find a permanent fix to the sharp edges and corners. At the moment, I took the real strong and think Gorilla Tape and put it around the edges, holding it in place with Black Electric Tape, but this will not hold up in a marine environment, I don't believe. It's definitely a problem that needs to be addressed.

I purchased this mount for my 26-lb thrust Minn Kota trolling motor. The mount fits behind the rear seat of my 17-foot Grumman canoe. I was using a home-made mount created from 2x4s, but the flex in my DIY mount was worrying. As others have said the wing nuts for the mounting bolts don't seem to fit tight enough into the V brackets. A couple of washers from the hardware store should fix that. I am using the bolt upside down in the meantime.Unlike others, I did not have to drill additional holes to get the mount to fit. The outside holes worked perfectly for me. The holes are 1 foot apart.

This product works great on my 15 foot Grumman canoe. Product is very solid and sturdy. Seller is wonderful to deal with. He called me multiple time to ensure the product worked perfectly with my application. Buy with confidence. Great product and excellent/friendly customer service. Used the product today on a 5 hour river jug fishing trip with my 7 year old daughter. We had a blast and filled the cooler with channel catfish.

Worked fairly well on my 13 foot plastic fishing canoe with a 30# thrust Minn Kota trolling motor. Only issue I had was occasional forward slippage of the mount-side clamp due to forward thrust of the motor. Had to keep sliding it back and re-tightening. Might peg it with a screw or small C-clamp. I wish the wing nuts were larger as they get pulled into the grooves cut into the corners of the clamps. May stick a heavy washer between nut and clamp. Otherwise, great product at much lower cost than Old Town and others.

Seller has great communication and the mount worked like a charm! Fits perfectly behind the rod holders on the OT Saranac 146 Deluxe! Couldn’t find any reviews specific to this canoe so hopefully this will help someone! Using a 46lb thrust, didn’t loosen up much or anything. Thanks again!!!
