nice kit, comes packaged well, tools are of excellent quality. I'm no expert, these are the first ones Iver ever ordered and feel that it was a good decision 5 out 5 (including the price!)

I do not think these are a good choice for beginners because the technique for use are different. Traditional chisels you need to learn to "ride the bevel" and this takes practice! These chisels you will use a different technique, tool rest at center line or slightly below tool at about 90degrees to the work piece. These carbide chisels are more scraping then shaving. If you get "off line" just at little they catch very easily big gouge or chip out of work piece. I recommend starting with traditional tools then incorporating these into your repertoire. Sharpening lathe tools is something of a skill set on its own, replaceable carbide is easier for sure, but learning to sharpen your own tools is always a good idea. CONSTRUCTION: The shafts and carbide tips feel very solid, you can feel this as soon as pick them up! The handle is aluminum: very light, for cap and shaft holder, threads are coarse, does not screw together smoothly for shaft holder and end cap. The shaft holder came loose in a couple minutes of use. this happened a few times. Tried a pipe wrench with rubber jaws to tighten it, still came loose. Finally put some Teflon tape on the threads this seemed to work. then the cap fell off the other end, Teflon tape there too. The handle is a little too small for my hand, but that is purely a personal preference. Grip tape may fix that! Overall, a decent set of carbide lathe chisels. A good first set to try to see if you like carbide chisels. They come in a fitted case that looks like something from a spy movie for carrying computer chips or Bio weapons. At the cost if just one or two fit your needs I say you come out ahead.

Great for the occasional user. Not for professional woodturner using every day for production work. Very good for the hobbyist wood turner. Meets my needs perfectly at a great price point.

I've used these on super hard woods like, purple heart, tiger wood, and soft woods as well as yellow heart and black limba. Only minimal tear out with the hard woods and and none with soft woods. The only negative I have so far is the handles will vibrate loose with the rougher gouging and the included allen wrench wants to round off if you tension the set screw tight enough to not vibrate loose. I will purchage this again if I need a second set.

Love that these tools stay sharp really long. Some people throw the tips away when they get dull. You can get a diamond sharpening stone and some lapping fluid to sharpen them multiple times. I've done probably close to 10 small projects and still haven't needed to sharpen. Also found out that the extension can be turned into a second tool handle. I Keep the square and circle blade ready to go at all times.

Took me 3 months before I used these. They are so good that I wonder why I kept using my old tools

It's OK as a cheap set, but the included allen wrenches are pieces of crap. They are softer than the cheapest ones at harbor freight. You might get a single use with them but don't expect more. The handle end for holding the cutters comes loose frequently and overall the entire set is fair at best.Try looking for something better if you want clean, smooth cuts.
