Used it to set rpm on lawnmower. Its a little bit tricky at first but I got it figured out and works fine. Worth the money

This device came well packaged in a box. in the box are the unit, a wire to loop into the side receptacle, and an instruction manual. I own a busy small engine repair business and normally use a Briggs Siro meter as the last time I tried one of these a few years back it didn't work well. These work great! Simply place the left side (where the receptacle for the wire loops around) near the plug wire and it reads very accurately on the twenty or so machines I have used it on. Sometimes you may have to move it to a different position or closer to the plug wire, but it is dependable. I have not used the included wire that clamps on the plug wire as I haven't had the need to read it remotely but I'm sure it works well. There is no need to press any buttons, simply start the engine and place it near the plug wire and it turns on automatically. My gripes are the battery is not replaceable, and I have no idea how long it will last, and the instruction manual is vague but will get you going. Otherwise, it works great at a very good price!

Cheap, did not turn on when received and picture is deceiving; wiring was not attached to device. Do not buy!!!

This is a pretty cool little tachometer.I've always used an optical tachometer, because that's what I learned in school, but this is soooo much easier for a single piston engine. There's no optical targets to set up, and I don't have to take anything apart. Just clip the clip to the spark plug wire, and it starts reading RPM.I've used this to tune My Stihl backpack Blower, String Trimmer, and Edger. You can guess at the rpm, or you can get it right... This is invaluable if you're trying to set up a power tool based on factory specs! It says chainsaw, but of course you could use it for a mini bike, go kart, or any other single piston engine with a spark plug.Someone was telling me that You can use it on a multi-piston engine, but you'd have to do some math.. I hate math!So I will just stick to "one bangers".
