Big Fat Snare drum is a must have for people looking for a quick way to get new sounds out of your drums.I've seen videos online showing it's performance and now that I have it I can say it definitely works. It muffles the drum so it sounds dry and deep. I love the donut because it gives you the option to play with different sounds when stacking it on top of the original BFSD.One thing to keep in mind is that if your snare or any other drum doesn't sound good without the BFSD it won't improve much afterwards. My snare is cheap and it came with my drumset so it has a lot of overtones and its sound in general isn't that great. Using the BFSD improved the dryness that I was looking for but it does rely on a good sounding drum for the fat goodness.

I love that both of these come together. I feel like that makes this a great value. They work differently, and sometimes in ways you wouldn’t expect, so I think having both options is important. I have used them on most of the drums to see how they sound different from each other, and in some cases the one with the hole was deeper, and in others it was the solid one that made the snare sound fatter.I find these especially useful in situations where you will need different snare sounds throughout the night. I did a tribute show to Radiohead last summer, and used an upside-down used snare head for a similar effect to be able to cover all of the different snare sounds throughout their catalog. Because I had left the rim on the old heads it required me to adjust the snare stand height throughout the evening. This year I’ll be using these to make my job much easier. Some people seem to think you can make these by cutting different head down and keeping them in your bag. I think you can do that, but the fit and finish on these more than make them worth the purchase.

Can't comment on what these would do in a live setting, but for taming a snare for recording, they work wonders. I liked the donut on a Ludwig Acrolite and the full cover on a Rogers Dynasonic. Fewer overtones without choking out the actual voice or resonance of either snare. I tried both head covers on a vintage Slingerland Radio King maple snare, too, but wasn't crazy about either result. I think maybe they just work better with metal shells. And as always, tuning matters.I've used them with coated and clear snare batter heads, and what I've heard in the studio pretty much matched up with the audio samples BFS has posted on their website. I'd buy them again.

Gift for my daughter.. she likes the sound with these and she doesn’t have to keep changing out a piece of paper that she used to use. She uses the donut on her snare and the solid one on the floor tom (the floor tom has a bigger diameter but it’s ok)

I have a pair of good snares in my setup. They are different from one another and I like having the ability to easily access one snare or the other even within a song for variety. Having these Big Fat Snare Drum overlays nearby is a great way of very quickly giving me even more snare variety without adding more drums to the setup. I love the fat, heavy sound they give and it's nice to just throw them on for a song or two, or however long I need that sound, and then remove them with easy in seconds. They really bring extra beefiness and dryness to even a high-tuned snare. A small note, though, anytime you add anything to the head of your snare (or tom) such as tape or more mylar you'll loose a bit of sensitivity. The donut-hole model is great to still have direct stick-to-drumhead articulation but the full-coverage model will make you work just a little bit more for rolls or ghost notes. However, they're totally worth it!

Achieves the sound that it was designed to do with a far more elegant solution than cutting up old drum heads. I'll probably be purchasing some more of the FX types soon. Great product.

Multipurpose for adding depth and silencing depending on which one you use and the snare you use it on.
