The item is well made and feels good to handle. The tapered holes allow soil plugs to pass through easily. You do have to gauge the soil conditions as I have a high clay content and when the soil is too wet, it tends to stick and prevent the plugs from passing through the tubes. Wait a few days for the soil to dry a bit and it works great.

I was able to thoroughly aerate about 1000 square feet of lawn in less than two hours with just a few incidences of clogging. When I first tried using it after watering the lawn, it clogged up frequently. I let the lawn dry for day and it worked much better. (Waiting two days after watering would have helped even more.) At first, I thought it was clogging, but I discovered that each three-inch insertion was compacting down to less than a one-inch core. So it takes several insertions before it starts ejecting cores. Another tip: Press forcefully with your foot, like you would with a spade shovel, and the cores will eject much better without clogging. I used a long nail to clear clogs. I am taking one star off my rating because Amazon shipped the product in a box that was at least 10X bigger than necessary. My mailman would not deliver it to my house due to the size, so I had to pick it up from the post office.

Tool worked great for aerating my front lawn, which isn't too large. I did have to unclog it several times, but that was also easy to do. Our Summer was very dry, and I had a lot of dead spots, but I watered a couple days and we had a good rain before I used it; ground was moist, not muddy. Watered after, seeded, and the lawn looks great. I'm very happy with this purchase. It was easily manageable -- just takes some time, as all things manual, but sometimes this is the only way for a smaller female -- heavy, bulky tools aren't usually manageable for us.

Worked great until it started plugging. I’ve unplugged it several times but it just plugs right away. Not sure what the secret is, but maybe after the paint wears off on the inside of the prong? Really disappointed. I’ll try to figure it out but, it looks like it going back.Amended review: after using it more and learning how to overcome the plugging, I’m gonna say it is worthy of a better review from me. Keys: soak it in a bucket of water and clean it with a wire bore brush (16ga shotgun wire brush works perfect). I feel after discovering the wire brush trick it doesn’t plug near as much.

This is a sturdy product, comfortable to use, and I haven't had any problems with it clogging. Having said that,the best time to aerate is when your soil is moist. It's a great alternative to renting an expensive gas powered core aerator. It take a while (maybe an hour) to aerate an area of 1,000 square feet. The plugs dissolved away with the first rain. I'm glad I made this purchase, and I'd recommend it to others.

Clogged from third push. Spend 10 minutes clearing it out with tools and hose, getting ricochet sprayed. Try it again, clogged from second push. I like how it says therapeutic in the description. This product is far from therapeutic.I do like how tall it is. I wish there were steps on the outside of the spikes.

Not for big areas but what I wanted to do in tight spots and a few hot spots it pulls nice plugs and did a good job!

Clogs constantly. It basically makes holes in the ground, but doesn’t remove the plugs because if the clogging issues. Save your money

After a couple of times using the device, the tynes clog up and I need a screwdriver or other sharp object to clean them out. Not as advertised.

I bought this Aerator with high hopes, wanted to breathe some life into a section of my backyard that was neglected. One side worked perfectly, but no matter what I did the second side constantly got clogged after 2-3 plunges.
