Took a little getting used to at first but has ultimate control and obvious quality. Starting to really enjoy using this paddle.

Now i'll start by saying i am no professional, with that said this paddle has been great. It feels good and seems well made. It has been easy to get ball spin and has been a ton of fun. If your on the fence about getting a new paddle for your table i would confidently say this will not disappoint.

Okay, I'm no ping pong wizard, but I am a materials snob, and I love this paddle. Admittedly the only paddles I've ever used before are the cheap ones everybody has out for guests at B&Bs and church basements, so I may not know the competition, but I do know that this paddle is as different from those paddles as a pair of Ginghers is to dollar store scissors. I can't wait to have a guest who can really use it to true advantage.

This ping pong paddle should come better packaged and with a plastic zipper protectant cover for the $60 plus dollar amount for a single paddle. Similar paddles by another manufacturer that come as a pair for less money than one of these paddles come with plastic zipper protectant covers. This paddle came in an external thin bubble pad sleeve, not even an individual manufacturers box. The paddle itself also came wrapped in a complete cellophane plastic with an additional plastic covering over each paddles rubber padding (images attached). I understand that this paddle is sold to be a defensive product but I personally think it didn’t help my defensive game. I have played competitive tennis and casual ping pong and personally prefer a lighter weight paddle instead of this paddle. Family members who tried this paddle during a family game night felt the same as me.

I've played a lot of table tennis in my life with a lot of different paddles. This Counter Strike model with Dark Velocity sponge/rubber combination is right up there with the best. Nice control and very sticky. Nice weight. Feels good. It's a little on the heavy side, but I like that. The rubber and sponge on this isn't as thick as on some other models I've used. It's purposefully designed to be relatively hard. I like that quite a bit because I've become accustomed to using outdoor paddles (with a thin layer of rubber and ZERO sponge backing) made by Cornilleau, and I absolutely love those. This Dark Velocity sponge/rubber combination might take some getting used to if you normally use super soft and spongy paddles. You can achieve serious spin and control with this... the harder you hit the ball. I'd say this paddle is good for power players who want control when they strike the ball hard, and for defense since the sponge is less springy and good for rebounding hard shots with good control. The rubber is interesting. I've never seen a table tennis ball leave marks on rubber like I've seen with this. Clean, brand new ball. Substantial marking. I'd love to know what sort of rubber material or coating they're using here. This is an expensive table tennis paddle, but for a serious player it's worth it. I wouldn't buy four of these to just let little kids destroy them, though. Those little kids can have the $15 paddles until they start showing some promise. ;)

The Counterstrike "Mad Scientist" paddle is billed as one offering “Defensive mastery.†It is a seven-ply all-wood paddle with an unfinished handle that weighs 191 grams.I described this paddle as “mad†because it is sheathed in Counterstrike’s “Dark Velocity†rubber. Dark Velocity is promoted by Counterstrike as a rubber built for speed and to be “an extremely offensive rubber.†Putting an offensive rubber onto a defensive paddle struck me as being odd, to say the least. I would have thought that Counterstrike’s “Autopilot†rubber would have been a better choice; but perhaps it's because that’s the combination that’s used on the firm’s “Thief†and "Atmostorm" paddles, and so they did not want to make three paddles that would be so similar.Regardless the rationale for the offensive rubber on the defensive blade, the combination works! The paddle offers good control with the opportunity to counter-attack with speed. It’s a comfortable blade to hold with a nicely-rounded and well-sanded handle; and is becoming my favorite paddle to be using in robot training because of the control that it gives to me. I believe that this paddle both encourages and rewards good technique.I’m pleased to have, to use, and to recommend Counterstrike’s Mad Scientist paddle. It is mad indeed — but it works!

This paddle bills itself as "for the defensive player." I'm an offensive player, but my defense needs some improvement, so I figured I'd give this paddle a try to see whether I could still play offense with it AND have a better defense.Well, it worked.Counterstrike, the brand name of this paddle, does a really nifty thing in their products pages: They tell you the relative harness of the sponge under the paddle rubbers, which is an indicator of the springiness of the paddle. This is an extremely handy piece of information, and it's one of the reasons for which Counterstrike is my new favorite brand for table tennis paddles. The harder the sponge, the less springy the paddle generally, and the less spin you will impart to the ball, hence, the greater is your ability to block a ball back at your opponent. And that's exactly what I noticed with this paddle, which DID improve my defense yesterday, in my weekly table tennis get-together.I noticed also that I had to provide my own power to keep up the offensive component of my game, and that suits me just fine, since one of my weaknesses is the long ball off the table. In the mix of spin and springiness, I guess I prefer less spin and springiness, or greater control, and this paddle delivers just that. You get all that, and at a very reasonable price of around $62. Nice!Recommended.
