Product was as described and price. Happy with product. Took a little longer to arrive than I thought it would be. I was always informed by amazon on the details when it would be delivered.

I have owned one of these for years and bought this one for my brother. It is an excellent kit for beginners and makes great beer. It tastes great and is a value for the amount that you spend.

While bottle fermenting the bottles seemed to be very pressurized. Before I put them in the fridge I would squeeze one a little and it had no give. Pressure from carbonation seemed good. After 3 days of fridge conditioning the bottles give in when I squeeze a little letting me know I lost pressure and carbonation. I should have known better than to trust a plastic bottle with a screw cap. Skip this bundle, get the one without bottles and buy your own glass ones or just learn how to actually make beer. This setup does not teach you how to make beer. It teaches you how to only know this system.

With the majority of online reviews being positive, decided to give MR. BEER a try. With the first keg arriving Dec., 2010, here's a review with results from using both the Premium & Premium Gold Kits to brew the 3-Beer Mix Variety Pack American Series, the 3-Beer Mix Variety Pack and a West Coast Pale Ale.Procedures used were: - strict adherance to the sanitizing process - exclusive use of Spring Water (not tap) - fermenting temp. observed above 65 deg. F - minimum bottling temp. 70 deg. F - careful to use all the ingredients (spatula to get every drop from the canned contents) - use of exactly measured plain white sugar for bottling - fermenting and bottling gestation done in complete darkness - used the recommended 2 week interval between all 3 stages. This is the first time to brew and unlike other reviewers, am no expert but enjoy drinking beer when watching my NFL football games. The results:3-Beer Mix Variety Pack American Series- Classic American Blonde Ale - Being the first brew, the anticipation had me opening the 1st two bottles after 1 1/2 weeks of cold lagering. Clear golden color, good carbonation, good head retention, a tad sweet but extremely tasty. My favorite beer.- Cowboy Golden Lager - Clear golden color, good carbonation, good head retention, pleasing bitterness w/ nice hoppy aroma. My second favorite beer.- Bewitched Red Ale - Perfect deep color, good carbonation, excellent head retention, this is the best tasting of this American Series Pack. Enticing aroma and a smooth, tasty beer.3-Beer Mix Variety Pack International Series- Oktoberfest Vienna Lager - Dark Ale color, good carbonation, good head retention, almost no bitterness w/ full hoppy aroma (my wife's favorite). Easy drinking beer and my favorite of this series.- High Country Canadian Draft - Clear golden color, good carbonation, good head retention, pleasing bitterness. Another tasty beer and my second favorite in this series.- Whispering Wheat Weizenbier - Deep golden color, good carbonation, good head retention, caramel finish. Flavorful but the slight sweetness makes it not one of my favorites.West Coast Pale Ale - Clear golden color, good carbonation, good head retention. Tastes in between the Classic American Blonde Ale and Cowboy Golden Lager. Weakest flavor among all the brews made but still tastier than light beer.Preferring American style light (Coors, Bud, Miller) beer, the quality from all the Mr. Beer brews I've made are all tastier. Despite the low published alcohol content, the actual "hit" is very smooth. Don't know were some of the reviewers got their "watery" taste and no "head" opinions. More likely, these sub-standard results were due to their using less than ideal sanitazion conditions, using tap chlorinated water, and/or rushing the brewing process.Got a lot of good tips from various online reviews, which minimized/eliminated mistakes. When one batch of beer is ready for bottling, reserve yourself 3 hours to bottle starting from a fully fermented keg, then re-clean, re-sanitize and have another brew batch inside the keg to start re-fermenting. My greatest advise would be to take your time in all aspects. It will result in a home made beer you can be proud off. Am using 3 fermenting kegs to get brewing into full production. Saving money is one thing, but drinking terrific tasting beer is the all-important consideration. My days of buying retail beer are history thanks to Mr. Beer and Amazon's great service.

This is a good starter kit and will make the basic brews that come with it. It can also be used to make more elaborate beers, where you're adding your own hops and grains and shaping the tastes a bit more. It can grow with you.You will see, reading other reviews, that some people were upset they didn't get the beer varieties they expected. My advice is, if this is critical to you, buy the items individually. You'll spend quite a bit more, though. I got the Mexican Cerveza (which I expected based on the product description at the time) and the American Lager (not what I expected). But it really didn't matter much because I planned to try lots of different kinds. And yes, the fermenter is a cheap, plastic thing, but so what? It works, and I understand they last a while. My keg/fermenter had a bad seal and was not usable when I got it, like some others. But I got on the phone to Mr. Beer, and within hours they had a new one on the way via UPS. Mr. Beer customer service is as good as any I've experienced. The directions are pretty simple. The only corrections I'd offer is you will have better beer if you ferment a full three weeks and let it sit in the bottle for at least four weeks. Some versions of the instructions downplay the patience needed and say to ferment just two weeks. A couple years ago, the directions said to ferment a week or two, let it sit in the bottle for two more, then dive in. The folks at Mr. Beer have gotten more realistic since then with an emphasis on quality rather than speed. Now for the beer. I waited five months between purchasing this kit and reviewing it, because I didn't want to make a snap judgment based on scant info. You really have to go through the process several times and have several batches to judge how good it is. I have made one batch each of the past five months and three are now ready to drink. The first was pretty good, the second was so-so, and the third, a cerveza-based recipe called Noche del Lobo, is spectacular.People who give one- and two-star reviews here and say it's garbage probably just rushed through the process or had poor sanitation. It's also important to keep the beer in the 65-70 degree range while fermenting. I just use an old Coleman camping cooler I had laying around with some frozen water bottles to keep it from heating up too much and producing off-flavors.Bonus tip: If you order this, or even if you're just thinking about it, go to the Mr. Beer website and find the forum. There's a great community of helpers there. So for me the bottom line is: $50 for a couple cases (almost) of beer and a great new hobby is a bargain.Jim

Was told the item was badly damaged and they are giving full refund. The service and quality seems to be really poor.

After years of wanting to get into home brewing, I came across the "Mr. Beer Premium Gold Edition Home Brew Kit" on sale at amazon. After reading a few reviews, I decided to take the plunge. This particular kit comes with two styles of beer: Cowboy Lager and Blonde Ale. The kit is incredibly straight forward and easy to use. They essentially replace the more laborious parts of brewing with a can of HME (Hopped Malt Extract) which is a condensed form of wort. Although the brewing process is extremely simple and quick, it allows for a great deal of experimentation. The basic beers (American Series) have a low alcohol volume (3.7%) and all fall in the lager/light ale category. But their deluxe brews allow for both higher alcohol volume (4.6%) and a wide range of styles (ales, stouts, porters, fruit beers, white beers). Finally, it is fun and easy to experiment using your own add-ins as the instruction booklet tells you exactly how extra adjuncts affect the abv level. For instance, I made the Witty Monk Witbier (4.6%) and added a half cup of honey (0.9%) to create Pine Creek Witbier (5.5%). I can't wait to try this one!The variety and potential for creativity on the Mr. Beer website is huge. They have a large selection of regular and premium refills in all the styles imaginable. They also offer seasonal refills that typically sit at 6.5% (Belgian Dubbel, German Hefeweizen, English Strong Ale, Imperial Pilsner)and they even offer a recipe book where they combine different HMEs with UMEs and other adjuncts to create some very interesting brews (they have over 60 recipes right now). Using the same set-up, you can even by cider refills in a variety of flavours and old-fashioned root beer! As I mentioned earlier, this kit really satisfies the beer connoisseur because of the immensity of flavours it can accommodate. The "ingredients" section allows you to buy single cans of HME/UME in whatever combination you want. They also sell hop pellets and yeast strains in a variety of flavours and styles. All this allows you to get closer to the "true" brewing experience as you gain comfortability with the system.Another reason I love this kit is its size. The brew keg holds about 8L of beer (equivalent to 20-24 standard beers)and is small enough to fit in an apartment closet. You don't need to have an elaborate set-up or an entire room devoted to brewing. I actually like that it only makes a case of beer at a time. If you don't like a particular beer, you don't have to slog through 5-8 cases before you can brew another one. I bought two set of bottles, so I generally have a rotation of two different beers in the fridge at any given time. The beer itself is very good thus far (I have only tried the Cowboy Lager) with a high level of carbonation leading to a nice, lasting head. With the lager, I found that it was really two beers in one bottle. The top half was a lager with nice clarity and head. The bottom half was cloudy in appearance with a diminished head. Swirling does little to counteract this effect. Overall, I'd say the beer is on par with an MGD in terms of taste and appearance. As for the price, you are generally looking at $20-$25 for nearly a case of beer, which puts it on par with lower end beers at the beer store. (Carling, Lucky Lager, Bohemian, etc.)I would say the quality of the beer, even the basic recipes, surpasses those beers. Plus, you get the thrill of making it yourself! All in all, I'd say it is a very good deal. Amazon has a few of the deluxe styles and recipes and they offer free shipping. The Mr. Beer website has far more product but the shipping to Canada can be a killer. In the end, if you are looking to get into the home brewing hobby and/or you don't have much space or money, this is an excellent way to start. It is simple for beginners and the variety of beer styles allows you to grow with the kit as you learn. If you are creative with your taste in beer then you will love the Mr. Beer Home Brewing Kit.

This little kit is a great introduction to home brewing, although, if you find that you enjoy making beer in it, you will most likely want to upgrade to a bigger setup, but this is a good way for beginners to explore the joys of home brewing. Each kit makes 2 gallons of beer (a case of 24 normal size bottles).I thought it was a great deal at $65 here on Amazon.ca, especially since it included two beer refill kits, which normally sell for almost $30 each. The normal Mr. Beer package includes only one beer kit. So, this is a bargain and for the cost of two refills, you get all the gear, plus the two beer kits, An excellent deal. You also get the brewing barrel, re-usable bottles. and some other items, such as the yeast, no-rinse cleanser/sanitizer, and carbonation drops. Full, easy to understand instructions are also included to guide you through the whole process from start to finish. The keg is easy to put together, but one thing to watch is, when you attach the spigot. It takes a little bit of adjusting and testing to make sure nothing leaks out from where it sits against the keg. It takes a little bit of effort, but you can get it to where it doesn't leak fairly easily. It's a good kit for beginners, but if you're a seasoned brewer, then this kit may not be for you, as it is only produces two gallons of beer at a time and the refills are very expensive, but if you buy malt extract at a local or online brewing shop, then it can be quite economical to produce small batches, and to experiment with various recipes, before committing to brewing full batches. All in all, it's an excellent intro to brewing your own beer, or other beverage at home. It takes up very little space and once you get it going, it can be left alone for a couple of weeks to ferment, then bottle it, drop in the carbonation drops and let it bottle condition for another couple of weeks, chill and enjoy your own beer. There's nothing quite like enjoying the fruits of your labour. Have fun.

I heard about Mr. Beer kits from a friend so I decided to give one a try and ordered this kit on sale. It came with everything you'll need to brew your own beer including two different syrups that result in two different types of beer. The brewing process is fun and you feel like a craft brewer in your own house, but after waiting a long time and following all of the instructions, both from the manual & online tips from Mr. Beer's website, the end product isn't all that great. First off, the beer has very little alcohol in it (think REALLY light beer). Secondly, it's not all that smooth for a light style of beer. And lastly, depending on the bottles (which are provided; albeit plastic), some of the batch may not come out carbonated (i.e. with bubbles) - two of my bottles seemed to have defective caps, which I didn't notice right away, and when I went to open the bottles, the beer was completely flat and, as a result, tasted awful.Overall, 3/5 - I was sort of happy with my purchase and did enjoy brewing, but I wasn't pleased with the finished product and think I'll just stick to buying my beer from now on.

The Mr. Beer Premium Gold Edition Home Brew Kit is one of the simplest kits out there, a great introduction to home brewing leaving you wanting to take the next step. Great looks and easy to follow instructions lead to rather good tasting beer. The kit is almost foolproof; sanatize your area and utensils, add water, the "mix," and yeast, wait 14 days, bottle and carbonate, wait 14 days and you have a good brew on hand. The beer is good, not great, as you are limited to the mixture that is given in the package. The draw-backs are that it is too simple. Much of the "fun" work is already done, leaving you with the process of sanatizing as the only worry to think about. 4 out of 5 since it is an introduction product and it has certainly made me want to explore more.
