I'm very pleased with the Crown 135 Marking Gauge. I love the Beech wood construction and it appears to be durable and functional. It arrived as expected and I only wish that Crown Tools would replace the plastic screw with one made of brass. I would definitely recommend this gauge.

A good cheap marking gauge. The pin is very sharp. Note that this is a marking gauge, not a cutting gauge. The fit and finish is very good. I never have liked the plastic screw, but what do you want? It is cheap and does the job.

You should sharpen the nail and maybe reduce some of the friction on the wood first. (Use oil, wax, etc) Looks neat and works well.Downside is I wish it had more registration surface. If that’s what you want I would go with the other Japanese brand that’s listed on Amazon for the same price.

For less than twelve bucks, this a great gauge. So far, I've used it for laying out all my rip, crosscut, and resaw marks on 10 feet of 8/4 cherry for a table I'm making and it's square and stable. The pin is very sharp. You could spend more on a rosewood and brass gauge so you can look impressive on YouTube or so your grandkids can mount it in an Applebee's after you die, or you could get this beech number and spend your money on other tools that keep you working.

Barely functional and if you are handy with woodworking, you would have made one that is of higher quality. However, for the price one wouldn't expect too much.

it works just like it is suppose to and is the cheapest one i found. I sharpened the point a little before i used it but it is a good marking gauge, definitely worth $10. And i don't have 2 waste the time making one. I can use that time for my projects i am working on.

Gets the job done for the most part but because it's a point and not a wheel, it tends to run with the grain leading to a wobbly line. I'll probably get one of the nicer ones with a wheel later on (or make one) but this'll do for now. I'm just not gonna use it on anything I don't want deep scrapes in

Its the tool I used when I first learned wood work at school. Nothing fancy but does the job needed in a professional manner.

Cheep and cheerful, what more could you ask for at this price point. A good buy.

If you're thinking about getting a really nice gauge with semi-exotic woods, I'd recommend making it yourself. But at this pricepoint this marking gauge is pretty hard to beat. The beech will standup over time and is accurate enough to keep just about anybody happy. If you still want a fancy gauge, keep this as your beater.

Dear All,I would simply like to share an observation, nothing more...I seldom write reviews and always try to emphasize the good aspects of the products without focusing on the inferior elements. Nothing is ever perfect and that's OK. There is a somewhat cosmetic manufacturing defect on the marking gauge. Functionality will not suffer very much and I will fix it but it is not about that. Let us forget about the price range of the item etc.; it is not about the money or the tier of the product, it is about this:- This is a product for woodworkers who - more often than not - do woodworking because they love it.- I hope I am not alone in appreciating effort, craftsmanship, and the joy in using hand tools.- Therefore, when a company lets an aesthetically (and somewhat functionally) ruined wooden hand tool pass quality control and sell it to a woodworker who bought it to use it with their hands and to enjoy it, it shows little appreciation for the craft and essentially sends a signal they do not care. There is most definitely no drama and the tool will work just fine but I will never use it because - for the reasons above - I resented it the moment I saw it (after having pricked my finger on the splinter getting it out of the packaging).A simple block of wood with a flat head screw in it will do a much better marking gauge when done carefully and with respect for the material, the woodworker, and the craft as a whole.Total - 2 stars:1 star for the good beech material;1 star for the prompt Amazon;0 stars for seller for letting that particular item leave their warehouse.Apologies for the rant and happy woodworking!
