Straight cuts

These can be a great benefit for someone who is laying out their cuts for stair stringers, but I got them to help be keep a mark once I've identified it on my measuring rulers, yardsticks, etc. I also struggle to cut circular saw lines free hand and find fences too wobbly. By clipping these on the front of my circular saw, I it keeps it stays flat and makes is a piece of cake to trim. The materials are good; smooth aluminum in a hex shape (some are round) that helps keep whatever I attach it onto abutted. It also has two extra screws in case you lose one. The only imperfection is that there's no soft cover over the aluminum which can create metal friction which is a rare problem. More oddly, the clip and can opener look like throw-ins to justify the price.

Made sturdy. They ought to last forever. More uses other than stair stringers

What can be said about these stair gauges, other then they are quality made, fit the square perfectly, and do exactly what you need them to do. They will likely last for many, many years, based on how well they are made.

The threads are not machined particularly smoothly, but they do the job. 2 extra knobs and a holder are included, but there is nowhere on the holder to store the extra knobs. There is also nothing on the end of the threaded rod or inside the mouth to keep the threads from digging into softer material like aluminum. But they were made for a rough and ready job.The octagonal design with the mouth being cut parallel to a face, means I can use these on a steel rule as a marking guide or depth gauge.

These stair gauges (stops) seem well made. They anchor securely on my framing square and almost lock into the etched markings with no slip. I don't currently have a need for them, or will really use them often, but it is nice to have another tool in the collection for the future, and I think you could find other applications to use them. I like that they included replacement screws as this seem like an item that you could easily drop and lose when unthreading them. The include bottle opener and carabiner are also nice extras.

I use these on my straight edges and framing square for marking and transferring measurements. Easier than trying to read the scale and remember numbers. I would never use these as a circular saw fence...there are better tools for that. But these gauges are a simple, well-made tool. The extra knobs and the keychain are nice bonuses.Update: After using them some more, I've lost some of my enthusiasm. While nice in theory, I'm finding them inconvenient to use in practice. Once you lock in an angle on the framing square or distance on a straightedge, it's tricky to adjust and tighten the knobs without shifting everything around. Maybe I'm just using it wrong.

This should only be used for stair tread guides for use with a pencil only not as a circular saw guide. Tried setting this up but while cutting this does not work once material is cut , the back guide will pivot in and cause the front to become angled . Gouging the piece not a good tool.
