I got an EV and elected to get a 14-50 outlet (Hubbell 9450a) instead of hardwiring because my car came with a free charger and this was more cost effective. This breaker is for Eaton CH Panels and is required by code for EV charging outlets since NEC 2017.I used 6 AWG THHN wires for the connection. This breaker is using the older style screw straight into the strands instead of a clamping mechanism. I elected to use ferrules because I don't like the wires fanning out too much even though it probably would have been fine.Another dislike but probably not a problem is the neutral pigtail wire size since I had to run my neutral to this incase I plug other loads that need a neutral later into it. The pigtail off the breaker is 10 AWG which is good enough? for 50/55 amps in free air. Would have liked to see at least 8 AWG coming off this.My CH panel also struggles with this since its an older panel and isn't as wide as a newer panel. I got it in but its tight in there.Enough of my complaints, it works great so far. No trips with my setup drawing 32 amps. I checked the temperature a few times and it gets a tiny bit warmer than ambient for extended charging loads.
