My Yamaha SV-255 5-string electric violin came with four Zyex strings, but a Helicore C string, which sounds muddy, even in lower positions. You can't even tune it properly because the pitch changes with the dynamics. I found that D'Addario's “short scale viola†strings are pretty much violin-scale length. So although they don't make a C string for violin in Zyex, the “short scale viola†C string works great, sounds warm and lively like the other Zyex strings on my violin, and holds its pitch like it's supposed to.

The G string does not sound like it is balanced with the other strings. This is the first time I have purchased strings from Zyex. Otherwise, the other strings have a rich and warm sound for the price. It took about a week to break them in. I use them with fine tuners. They did fit snuggly in the fine tuner slots. No protectors for the bridge. I find I can tune them with the fine tuners even though it requires more turning of the fine tuners than with my previous steel core strings. I switched from Prelude to Zyex. The sound is MUCH better. I can bow the string and the tone does not change as I bow on these strings. I find that I need to bow a bit differently on the Zyex strings. Their response is different. As I am becoming familiar with this and the strings settle more, I am noticing more warm tone from them. These strings also feel better on my fingers. Much softer feel. These fit on my 14" Viola. The add originally said it was for 13" - 14" although the package states it is for 14"- 15". The strings had a expectable amount of string to wrap on the pegs. It didn't feel like I had to much for my 14" Viola. I am happy with this purchase and would purchase strings from Zyex again.I purchased these strings since my Prelude strings were holding me back from progressing to intermediate.Is there any way to exchange the G string so that all the strings have the same tone? The G string has a distinct different tone to it. It sounds like it was purchased separately even though I purchased these as a set and all four strings came in the same package.Thank you.

These are the strings I prefer to use on my viola after trying several brands. The sound is good and they seem to last longer than some brands.

I really liked the sound of these strings on my viola. I play a 14" viola, so I can't use most regular viola strings, and the strings I was using before I tried these Zyex made my viola sound loud, but not very warm. These strings have a lovely balance and the A string sounds particularly nice on my viola.

The Zyex strings gave my daughter's inexpensive viola a much smoother and richer tone. Her orchestra teacher was very surprised.

A warm sound that is so much easier to produce and control than with the heavy tension helicore steel that I was using. Sounds great with a pre-amp.

I chose these because they are short scale and because of the price.They are not as bright relatively as the Zyex violin strings that we have on the 1/2 size violin

Fred, my stumpy little viola, took to all but the C string very well (the C is a bit cramped, and I should probably clip it a bit shorter). A couple of months in, they sound fine. They're not the highest quality, but they got the job done and saved me a trip downtown to the music store. I feel that I got what I bargained for, and am happy to give a good review.
