Wish I had replaced the regulator years ago! Gen light never quite went out when running and was staying bright all the time. I needed to run it for a few hours work, but wasn't charging. I checked that I had about 18 volts coming from the generator wire, but voltage dropped at battery on startup. A simple R&R of the old one, with squeezing the old connectors to help tighten them, and the battery is fully charging now. Even the gas gauge works now! Great product!

I ordered this a few months back and just tried to install. I was getting a generator light on a Ford 4000 12v system and verified that the generator was putting out the required voltage on the amateur. After troubleshooting I needed a new regulator as this was the original regulator made back in 65. I installed this new regulator and the problem didn't go away. After much troubleshooting I decided to open the regulator. The B side of the regulator had a short from one of the windings to case. When the assembled the case they smashed down the wire which made the short to case. This was the first problem. The second problem was that almost all of the nuts that hold down the contacts were loose causing all the relays to be out of calibration. I could take my finger and move the plates that hold the contact points. I purchased this part based upon the ratings and I am surprised others have not had an issue. Like I mentioned in my headline.... I must have gotten a lemon. I will go back and order a Ford made version and the quality difference is night and day.Update: I did order another one but not this one. The problem was definitely the regulator. Very disappointed that this one had such poor product quality. It would have saved so much time in troubleshooting if it actually came in working. The one I ordered from another Amazon vendor utilized good manufacturing processes and was not cheap quality.
