This saved me about $400 when the plumber that came over said I needed a completely new value for $450. This spool went bad two years ago so I knew I didn't need a new value but the home warranty sent a new plumber. The only trick is that you need both pressure from the hot and cold water to make it function. When I just turned on the hot the spool shut but when I added the cold it worked great.

I had a 1986 Delta shower that was almost all hot water and low pressure. I had to purchase a 9/16 claw wrench to break the old spool loose - whose insides seemed totally frozen. New spool working well to balance the hot & cold.In my case I also had to first work the cold stop/shutoff back and forth to clear something clogging it.

Easy to remove old spool with a 3/4 inch Universal Grip socket, and install new with same socket. Everything looked Delta OEM to me.

Replaced a seized up one that was not letting hot water through. Worked great. Make sure you have an exact match with your old one, look at the number of washers.

Fixed my problem perfectly. Needed a little breaking in to loosen the parts, but it works flawlessly now.
