Simple yet effective. Its a no frills stud finder, but does what it is supposed to. Only draw back is it constantly beeps when I'm holding it, I must be a STUD!!

So I was very skeptical to purchase this after seeing the reviews, however it was on sale and I love DeWalt products plus I like to develop opinions based on my own experiences so I bought it to give it a try, at first I when holding it outside the package I thought to myself this is so lightweight and cheap now I see what everyone was talking about. However when I tested it several times over and over it was spot on atleast 90-95% of the time! Both with studs and live wire! Not saying the folks who couldn’t get it to work don’t know what they’re doing but for me it really did work and I was very pleased with it, even tested it against a 3 in 1 more expensive finder I have and this was quicker to detect the objects and from much further away as compared to my “better†one. For the folks who can’t get it to be accurate I would not read the instructions but watch the video so you can see how to really use it, make sure your walls aren’t too thick, make sure they are actually drywall and not plaster or any other material, make sure you lay it flat on the wall and hold the middle button until the lights minus the power light go off, make sure your moving it in one direction on the wall not changing your height or position on the wall it should be slow smooth slides in one direction also not up and down and back and forth on the wall, just one clean slow uni-directional movement. Also you have to keep your hand in the same position once it’s on the wall you can’t be moving your fingers or hands at all, this will throw off the calibration, you also need to make sure your opposite hand and arm are at your side and away from the hand with the finder if you touch the wall with your other hand or even bring it near the hand your using to locate the stud it will throw off the calibration. If you do all of these steps and it’s still not working for you maybe it isn’t the best product and I lucked out. However I must say I am fully impressed by this stud finder.

For folks that are used to old methods of doing work with equally old tools, this here is an upgrade to quit guessing when wanting to hang something or drill into the wall for whatever reason. Ain't a digital screen to help along the way and I reckon that causes some folks not to care for it. Real simple to use and accurate; double checked my spots and dead on. Open ring design to make your marks is fantastic. Simple, accurate tool.

I misplaced my old stud finder and bought this one after looking at some different ones. I thought it was the right price point for a simple device, which is all I needed. But then it failed, repeatedly, to identify studs I knew were there—it found them one time, but not a second time, when I was testing out its accuracy and reliability. It told me there was a stud where there really wasn’t one, too. I marked it, was hanging a holder for my brooms, and thankfully I always use a small test drill bit first, to make sure the stud is where the device tells me. It wasn’t. I had to use a drywall anchor instead, which wasn’t my first choice; I was trying to place the hanger where it would have at least two studs, but thanks to this thing, there was only one in the middle instead of two at the ends like it told me.If it’s going to be that inaccurate and useless, I may as well thump the wall with my fist like I did after losing my Stanley one. I don’t think any studfinders in my price range are going to be all that, but I was really disappointed that a DeWalt branded one was so lame. I love my DeWalt tools—batteries and tools are still doing great after >10 years—so I guess I expected more than I should have here. It was returned, and my old Stanley (which owns DeWalt now) was found and put back into service—just as inaccurately! (Sigh.) I’m back to thumping on the wall, or else unscrewing the outlet cover to figure out what side is attached to a stud.

This is useful but lacking. I thought with this brand that I would be getting something much better. I get a lot of false readings and it's having a really hard time reading through 1/2 drywall even though it is supposed to work for 3/4 inch. I like the design and the features but it's just lacking for me.

I brought this stud finder to use on a DIY project that required locating the studs behind my family room wall. Stud finder did EXACTLY what it was supposed to do. Great product, and the price was perfect.

I tried two other stud finders on an insulated stud wall and neither worked correctly. This one found the studs easily and accurately.
