This product has sensors to detect 3 things--studs, metal, electric current. The stud finder is good, but suffers from the same problem that many similar instruments have in that it doesn't work well with rough and uneven surfaces because (I suppose) the sensor can't maintain good contact with the wall. When that happens, I found the metal detector very helpful because it detects metal (nails/screws) within about a 1-3" range. Between using the stud finder and the metal detector I could find the studs fairly easily and reliably. The electrical field detector was almost useless, though. I did a test using a piece of drywall and 2 different wires with live current. With one wire it gave a range 10" wide and with the other, the range was 18" wide. Yes, the wire was in the middle of the range, but it was not specific enough to feel comfortable drilling into a wall, knowing that a wire was there (somewhere) and being sure I wouldn't drill into it.

Junk. Didn’t find the studs in my wall. Drilled multiple holes where it indicated a stud should be. Now I have extra holes inthe wall I have to patch.Ending up using a 20 year old stud finder from a neighbor. Tha unit found the stud correctly the first try.
