Non-contact Measurement
The device sends out a beamed laser spot that gets reflected by the tape or any suitably reflective surface. The sensor in the tach picks up the pulses and performs the measurement.
- Open battery cover by screwdriver, install a 9v battery,
- Cut a square off from the reflective tape and paste it on the object to be measured,
- Press "MEAS" button to aim the reflective tape with laser.
Contact Measurement
- Install the adapter on the instrument,
- aim on and contact the axis of the object measured, then the data will display on the LCD screen.
Measuring type: Rotational speed(RPM), counter rotating(REV), frequency(Hz), surface speed(m/minute; inch/min; feet/min; yard/min and length(meter, inch, feet, yard).
Widely Application
The digital tach can be used in the field of motor, electrical fan, paper making, plastic industry, chemical fiber, washing machines, car making etc.
It is widely used to measure the RPM of the Engine, Motor, Drill Press, Lathe, Car, Fan And Wash Machine.
It can also measure the surface velocity of the conveyor.
Please Attention
- Before using, you can practice or test it on conduction motors.
- Usually keep device close to the object measured to reduce the size of the laser dot can get a more accurate readings.
- The purpose of the reflective tape is to offer a good contrast between background and measuring area, but if the part measured has other reflective surfaces, like shiny metal, please apply a non-reflective tape(black or a dark color tape) to act as background.
- If reflective tape ran out, white paint is an easy substitute for it.

I use this for work, for measuring the line speed of conveyors mostly. I use the wheel to make contact for speed measurements. For the price, this little device is excellent. Best I can tell, very accurate too. Have not used the indirect laser measuring feature as it does not apply to my work.I have see comparable models for much more. This is a great value.

The problem is this unit has such a poor owner's manual that I cannot tell how to use all of the functions correctly. The rubber pieces that are for contact measuring slip off the unit easily thus making it harder to use in that situation.

I work with conveyors all the time, and it's tough to find an affordable and good tachometer. This worked for maybe a year, then it started giving nonsense numbers. The manual sucks and I still haven't really figured out how to turn it off. Sometimes it turns off on its own.

Just needed to measure the rpm on a Bridgeport mill. The roller and the laser gave me different numbers. They weren’t even close to the actual rpm. 🤷
