The instructions are spare, but adequate if you take a minute to absorb them. Contrary to what other reviewers said, it is easy as pie to change from Fahrenheit to Centigrade and back. Press the SET button for about 2 seconds. The directions DO say this. I tested it for temp range indoors and it worked perfectly. The back light comes on with the press of any button and it is bright. Even better, it has a small blue light, so you can tell if it is on when using with something that other than a light bulb. You can set it just for a temp range (no timer). This is super easy. If you want to also have that control timed, you can do that, too. Love it so far.

Only shows temps and settings in Celsius, but works GREAT!I use mine to run a small supplemental heater in my workshop - maintains a tight temperature tolerance, and was easy to set up

Thermocouple is accurate to a few other references I compared it to. There's plenty of functions, most of which I will never use. 0.1 degree temp settings for start and stop settings allow for good control of temperature ranges on a dumb AC unit, which makes it now much better than my digital one that has a very wide hysteresis and is therefore basically useless for maintaining consistent climate.

The MakerHawk Digital Thermostat is a fine device for controlling electric power to an outlet by temperature but not so good controlling by time. Frankly, there are far better choices to control by timer, so I will concentrate on what the MakerHawk does best - temperature.Going by the satisfying click when turning on and off, the controller uses a relay rather than a TRIAC. This means that you need not be concerned about the load other than voltage and current.I will say that I am very satisfied with its temperature capabilities and recommend it for that purpose with a caveat. The MakerHawk Digital Thermostat is sold under several brands names, and they all have a similar fault - lack of clear instructions. If you see a video on one of the tubes and it looks like this, then you probably can also use it to help with settings. So, the rest of this review is devoted to getting the thing to work for you.First off, Temperature control and timing cannot be used at the same time. Pick one or the other. Choose wisely - temperature.C° to F°Switching temperature from Celsius to FahrenheitPress and hold the "SET" button for 2 seconds to switch between ℃ or ℉.Temperature CalibrationApply power (plug it in) and within 2 seconds, quickly hold "MODE" button down for 2 seconds only until the word Calibrate appears. Use "UP" and "DOWN" to calibrate to the correct temperature. Press and hold "MODE" 2 seconds to save the calibration offset.Lock ScreenPress "MODE" and "SET" simultaneously for 5 seconds to lock the thermostat from changes.Repeat to unlock.Temperature ModePress "SET" to enter temperature control mode. Use "UP' and "DOWN" to select the temperature and press "SET" to choose between START and STOP.If the START (On) temperature is greater than STOP (off), then the thermostat is in Cooling mode.If the START temperature is lower than STOP, then the thermostat is in Heating mode. There is a cute litte LCD indicator that goes from Sun to snowflake to confirm mode.Keep START and STOP separated by a degree or two to keep it from switching on and off too often. Make the difference greater if you get too many unwanted switches. This dead zone is called hysteresis.Backlight Timer (if yours has one)Press and hold "UP" and "DOWN" simultaneously for 5 seconds.Use "UP" and "DOWN" to select:bL-0=10 minutesbL-1= 1 HourbL-2=4 HoursbL-3=8 HoursbL-4=Always OnPress "MODE" to save. That is about it. I use it to keep my medicines cooled within a safe range. It is precise and works well with a simple refrigerator for that purpose. Much cheaper than a precision medical grade cooler. Probably good for an incubator or reptiles, but better have a backup alarm if little lives are at risk. Yes, it does have a timer function, but it is based upon counting hours on and off and not time of day.

If your looking a simple temperature controller this will work for you, if you need high precision PID controller then this is not the right choice.I need to control temperature between 40°C and 50°C so high precision isn't a big concern for my application. The on and off points can be set as low as 0.1° F/C apart but the heat source I'm using is so great that PI control would be beneficial to prevent overshoot of my desired temperature. (The "D" derivative function isn't really needed for my application)If needed I can use a lower power heat source which will take care of the overshoot issue.I was going to use one of my Arduinos for this application but a thermocouple and relay actually cost the same as this controller and add an outlet, power cord and case and it didn't make sense to go with the DIY approach.

I use this in my family room which is an addition. This room is always cold in the winter. I put a space heater in and plugged it in to this temperature controller. Works much better than the control on the space heater. Love this temperature controller!

I have a low cost portable fridge that has an unreliable temperature controller. Instead of replacing the whole fridge, this external temperature controller comes to the rescue! By setting the fridge controller to a low temperature below freezing, this controller effectively monitors the temperature and cycles the compressor on and off as needed to operate in the 45 - 40 degree temperature range. I used an independent Bluetooth thermometer to monitor the internal temperature and found the external controller probe reading to be reasonably accurate.

worked great! used it in the great freeze of 2024!
