I have used metal versions of these for many years in commercial construction to get the contours of old wood trim around windows to detail these in drawings for replacement with aluminum scroll panning. The old ones with the metal pins would bend and you couldn't lock them in so you had to immediately trace them out on paper. This plastic version has a couple cool features like being able to link multiples of them together and the locking feature. Nice that it comes with replacement pins in case you bend or break some.

Got this for my husband he was really disappointed with the Contour Gauge Unlimited Connection Profile Tool. The quality feels cheap, and the gauge doesn't lock securely in place, making it difficult to get accurate measurements. It also bend easily, which defeats the purpose of a precise tracing tool. Not worth the price at all, especially for anyone looking for a reliable tool for woodworking or welding projects.

I had another contour gauge but have no idea where it is. I was getting ready to install some laminate flooring in my bathroom and after an extensive search of my house and shop I couldn't locate it so I ordered this one. What I really like about this one is the lever to lock the shape in place. Another useful feature is the ability to connect another to the end for larger areas. I was able to mark and for some larger areas like beside the tub but will be ordering another to connect and make it easier.

I got this to do some complex curves. No matter how square you think your walls are, they likely are not. And it's nice to take a copy of that corner, wall, edge, etc to the work bench with you and be able to make minor adjustments and test fit without running back and forth from the actual install site to where your tools are (or dragging your tools to your work site. However, it can be a little finicky to use, if you press hard enough you can lose what you have saved on it, and with it being plastic, if you try to sand, or otherwise work right at it, you can damage it. But if you keep those things in mind and are thoughtful as you use it, it works fine. Easier than templating in many cases.

I really do not like this contour gauge. It is EXTREMELY stiff to operate, meaning that out-of-the-box, the fingers would barely move. I resorted to lubing it up with (first) silicone spray, and even that did not help much. Finally, I used some motor oil and now it "sort-of" moves but honestly this is REALLY LOW QUALITY.And yes, I know how to use it, and no, it was not in the "lock position."The whole point of this tool is to push it up against something, the fingers will freely slide back, and then you lock them in place. If you have to force the tool to move, that just does not cut it.I would not recommend this to anyone. HARD PASS.

I have been working on a laminate floor install and was looking for a contour gauge to help with the install. This 10 in long unit is perfect for most of my needs right now. I really like the ability to add sections to make a longer total gauge if I need to. The tool is very well built and works effortlessly so far. I do not anticipate needing to replace any pins but the kit comes with spare replacement pins. This is the only knock I have as the product description says it includes 10 extra blades and one of the pictures says 5 extra blades. Not sure which is correct, but mine only came with 5 so I assume the picture is correct, but conflicting descriptions in ads annoy me.
