Used if for grass plugs and next spring bulbs. Just used it for a post hole tool for a tree stake.

I've used this tool for several thousand plugs and counting. It works as I expected and I recommend it.However, it is important to know that the soil should not be too wet. It can cause the plugs to stick. As other reviewers have commented, it is a design issue, the ejector rod passes through a single hole, thus can get cocked or angled and seize up.Make sure the soil is not too wet.Take shallower plugs. Deeper plugs are more likely to get stuck in the unit. Especially if the plug is taken from very compacted or dense soil.

Terrible product. You wont be able to use this unless you have ideal soil. This Texas clay laughed at it. Soaked the grass could push it in, but when lifted nothing comes with it. The sod is still where it was. Easier to use a shovel.

I finally got a chance to use this today. I needed to dig up a sprinkler and several feet of the water line.I can’t say this is a great tool. The handle is short, so I was leaning over it and it was easy to lose my balance when trying to step on it. The foot part you stand on isn’t quite long enough, and combined with the short handle, makes it a bit cumbersome. The plunger to eject the plug is too small and seems to get stuck if the pressure isn’t just right. It was actually easier to use my hand to eject the plugs.Cheap Chinese products that are copied from other designs and made as cheaply as possible. Never tested in the real world. No care given to making a good quality tool. Just putting products out there to make a buck. It’s just barely functional enough, but at a cost that doesn’t make sense.3 stars - not great, but not

The plugs in the pic do not look like anything because the grass was long and got cut off in the process of taking the plug. The plugs come out easy and stay together. I did the plugs after a rain so the soil was moist and stayed together. Making a hole for the plug was also easy and the plug just slips right in. I brought a trowel but did not need it for this process. We have calcareous soil with rocks so if I stepped down and hit a rock I just backed off and spun it to take out a shallower plug. The teeth are sharp. I had no issue cutting the Miami grass. You have to step on the pedal to remove the plug and then stepping to take a plug pushes the piston back up. Spring does not really move the piston.

I finally got to try this today and it is heavy grade metal and does a great job of creating the plug, but the foot pedal for ejecting the plug is WAY too small, the plunger too short, so the plug is a pain to get out of the cutter.I plan on increasing the size if the foot pedal and the distance it moves out to see if it works better, standby.Update: I increased the plunger peddle by a factor of 3 and it made a NUGE difference.

Where I live there is very hard dirt. It isn't soil. It is a mixture of clay and hardness. To test this tool I went to my back yard and didn't bother to wet anything down. Dry clay like dirt, I stepped on the two steps and wiggled back and forth a bit and down that thing went. Digging all the way to the depth of the tool in seconds. I brought it up and kicked the pedal and a plug came out just as advertised it would. I was impressed and continued to dig little holes in my back yard grinning like a school boy. I did have one plug get caught up in it. Without thinking I took a 26oz framing hammer and beat the pedal to pop out the plug. This did not really damage anything. The plug came out and there were a couple of dings from the waffle pattern of the hammer on the pedal. In hind sight I could have probably just ran a hose over the top of the plugger wetting the dirt inside and it most likely would have come out on its own. I think that plug got stuck cause I had a Kosha weed in the middle of it.This thing has nice rubber handles that were comfortable to hold onto. The coating is something I have used on other things. Its called Hammer powder coat and its tough and long lasting. The pedals are a thick metal and they had no problem holding a 230lb guy like me. I can see this is going to be very handy for a very long time in my use and I am not nice to my tools.

This product is trash. The foot release does not work. It sticks. It’s a design problem. The rod goes through a single hole so it tilts and sticks. Looks pretty, but it’s just trash.
