I had to replace this housing, the ignition cylinder, and the door lock due to theft attempt. I might have read the instructions wrong, but it said to remove the yellow shipping plug before installing. However, I had to put the plug back in to install the park lock cable. Other than that, it was fairly simple replacement.It looks exactly like the original housing from the factory with the exception of the Dorman part number in the casting.I relied more on YT videos than the instructions that came in the box.

The part appears to be of good quality, and it has worked well since installation a few weeks ago.The product sheets did not include '99 Chevy Silverado, but in fact it did fit my '99 Silverado, replacing the worn OEM part.Retraining the new part takes 2 or 3 retries of 'attempt to start, then leave in the on position until the security light stops flashing.' Possibly include 'fully remove and re-insert the key' for each attempt.' I was finally successful in retraining the part to the key when I finally tried removing and re-inserting the key on my third pass at waiting 10 minutes for the security light to stop flashing.

Very easy to install. Only headache of the install was the retaining pin. Autozone charges $150 for the same part#.

I was a bit skeptical about the product cause some times buying auto parts off amazon is a big hit or miss but this fit perfectly in my 2002 Tahoe

This is a great product and a much better alternative than paying the GMC price, it works as described and should be noted it would be good to buy a lock plate remover before attempting the job as well as a steering wheel puller tool. With the lock plate remover tool you will need to bend it in to make it work for this application.

I put this in my 2005 Cadillac EXT and it's an identical replacement item in fit and quality. Comes with a plastic plug in the keyway that has no instructions for an easy way to remove it. But a little brute force and ignorance and all is good.
