Very impressive in size, weight, value for the money, and general aesthetic!

The first photo is of both pieces in a 5 gallon bucket (of which they didn’t fully fit) with boiling water. That was the first boil and the worst of the tannins. Super easy to clean and smelled like actual wood, not some chemically treated mess passing as aquarium decor. The larger piece was very dense and immediately settled to the floor of my 20g and stayed put. The “smaller†piece had to be wedged in place with the larger piece to hold it down initially. My substrate is white sand and I’ve had exactly zero tannin staining. I didn’t want my sand stained but don’t mind a black water tank as I have 2 and they are actually my favorite tanks. No issues there at all and the water is clear. There is some mulm growth on the wood now but my mystery snails will take care of it. If it gets crazy, I’ll have the perfect excuse for getting some crustaceans to join the team. This is by far the best price around for driftwood/hardscape of this size. If I had any complaint it would be that I’d prefer a lighter colored wood but I knew what I was buying before I did it and it still looks great. 10/10 recommend.

I love the shape of the pieces and the size for my 5 gallon betta aquarium. I am struggling with the amount of tannins released. I boiled the wood 8 separate times and soaked them in water for 3 weeks. I thought it was slowing down but when I put it in the tank it turned it to a very dark looking tea. The second photo was today when I boiled them again! If you are looking for a black water tank this is probably the right wood. Unfortunately, I like to see my fish!

I boiled this wood over 12 times and the water is still as dark as the first boil. I will not put in my tank. The cost of the electric to boil, the cost of the water used, comes out to way more than I paid for the wood. Very disappointed, so I threw them in the garbage. I'm done, a huge waste of time and money.

I wouldn't recommend buying the 2 pieces of 14-18 inches, one of the pieces was just a thick stick and the other was similar but it did branch off at the ends somewhat that gave it some character. Like what you would quickly find in your yard if you have some trees. Compared to another listing I bought from for 14-18 inch mopani wood, the other company's piece was a lot bigger and more intricate like how the image on this listing looks like for the bottom piece which is a lot better for hiding spots for fish or turtles. I also got a spider wood from the other company in a sepperate order and it was also intricate, so they're 2 for 2. I didn't get that here with this order. You can try your luck and return it if you want to try. 2.5 stars

These are cool and rock solid but like Forrest Gump says "you never know what you're gonna get". Perhaps if I contacted seller and told them what I was using them for they would have found better samples, I might try that next time.

I've been using "iron wood" for at least 3 decades. The pieces I've received are excellent, even better than what I've been able to purchase locally. The tannins are no different than what I've experienced in the past. There are no shortcuts. You've got to cure the wood. It's worth it.
