I got this for my oldest daughter for Christmas. As a long term science experiment. At first you didn't know what to think about it until I explained to her what it was. She immediately found an apple core and some dirt to put in one side with the magnifying site glass. On the other side, she put just table scraps and a few mealworms, and now she has a whole compost ecosystem in that side, and she can watch the apple cord decay on its own on the other side without any bugs. The lid is very secure and takes a little bit to get off, which is fine.Because then you don't have to worry about it falling and spilling. Great science experiment for my 9 year old. Would recommend four kids that don't I have the attention to put into building things or putting projects together that take a lot of attention.

We JUST started our own little garden, we have 4 pepper plants, and are learning about how to keep them growing and producing to the best of our abilities. So, when we received the Garbage to Garden set for review (free of charge, but our opinions are 100% our own), we were really excited. Learning about what can do good for your garden and what doesn't is a great experiment for the kids. I definitely recommend this set for any family that is interested in the outdoors and gardening.

I received my item but it did not come with the 22 page activity journal which is an important part of this product. It is a shame because now I cannot complete the plans that I had for my students. There isn't even an instructional flyer to provide directions as to what is needed. Very disappointing.

Space is too small to be of any use and cannot put much item in it even after removing the centre divider.

I have purchased this set for my preschool every year for quite a few years now. Never a problem. This year was not good. The gel was leaking from the container when it arrived. I'm not sure if that caused problems or what, but the ants never dug holes. Many died. Ones on top seem agitated and crawling the walls. I'm really sad because my students always love this project.

I bought this as a gift for my nephew who is curious about plants and lifecycles. It came with an instruction book that gave info on how composting works into the lifecycle of plants.

It's basically a tiny plastic bin with a separator. I could have bought that at a dollar store. The separator is really difficult to get in especially if there's any dirt. The booklet that comes with this is also cheaply printed. Such a disappointment for my kids.
