I have only used it a couple of times in my car. It was easy to install. I used it on my handheld radio had to buy the adapters separately, but it came in loud and clear and my opinion is this is a good little antenna. I highly recommend it.

I bought this antenna for use with my Amateur Radio DMR VHF/UHF radio in my car. The antenna is unbranded. The base is branded as Eightwood, and there is no documentation provided with either package, so there is no resource to determine what bands this antenna was designed to operate, nor what the expected VSWR should be.I have included photos of the frequency sweeps I took of this antenna while it was mounted on the roof of my car, with the coaxial cable routed as I would have used it.The VSWR is rather mediocre for use as a transmit antenna, providing high impedance over the large portion of both VHF and UHF ham bands, with the exception of the 147 MHz of the VHF band. At 2:1 VSWR, 1/2 the energy the radio is transmitting is being reflected back and the radio's amplifier has to dissipate this energy as heat. This likely will damage the final amplifier stage and cause it to generate less powerful signal over time.I did not sweep this antenna outside of the ham bands, so I cannot comment on what band it is suitable for. This really should be provided by the nameless manufacturer. One note about the magnetic base- the bottom material that covers the base is a fabric-like material that is very thin and flimsy material resembling a flannel texture. I anticipate this material will pick up any dust or dirt that might be present and will, over time, cause deterioration of the painted surface of the car.I recommend any amateur avoid this antenna for use on a vehicle.

I saw reviews - adding some VHF tests here using new Eightwood and values from Comet CAA-500 Mark II for buyers. With antenna magnet attached to metal picnic table: 144 MHz, 3.8 SWR, 19 ohms; 145, 2.6, 35; 145.5, 1.9, 47; 146, 1.4, 63; 147, 1.8, 55. Least SWR @ 146.286 MHz, 1.34 SWR, 69 ohms. Very usable in 145.5 - 147.5 range. The rule that a short antenna is a peaky antenna holds true. Great antenna for the price if you need a super-compact, quick antenna for not too much money!

Initially, I was very pleased with this low-profile antenna. It mounted easily and provided excellent reception. The cable was a good length, and the overall design was sleek. However, my satisfaction was short-lived. After only a few months of use, the cord connecting to the antenna began to corrode. Eventually, it completely fell off, rendering the antenna useless.Given the relatively short lifespan and the issue of corrosion, I cannot recommend this product. I would expect a higher level of quality and durability from a product that is designed for outdoor use.

When I first saw this antenna, I questioned it a bit, but went ahead and purchased it. I use it on my wife's SUV towards the back hatch. It does a very good job for both my portable which I use with it most of the time, and my mobile radio which I use when taking trips. It is not that noticeable, which doesn't attract smash and grab criminals. It seems to do a very good job when going through repeaters, don't know how well it works using direct frequency communication as I usually am close to a repeater.JonCouncil Bluffs, Iowa

Whilst the antenna can be removed from the magnetic base and has a PL-259 connector there, you can't just remove it from the base and expect it to work (like I'd hoped you can). The magnetic base is designed to attach to a car or some other large metal surface, and the antenna relies on this surface being there to act as a ground plane. Without it, the SWR of the antenna will be horrible and you won't be able to transmit on it.If you want to use this as a general portable antenna, use a metal baking tray or similar and attach the magnetic base to that.

under the felt sticker on the bottom the wire are only held on by a small drip of solder and not epoxidized to seal it up. my wires ripped out while i was trying to install it, and when i looked the wires were corroded already from not being sealed.
