I have a super great, heavy duty Meshtec screen door (these are amazing - a combo security/screen door & no cat can claw through & no bad guy can easily damage it to get in, yet it looks like a regular screen door! Look it up on Home Depot website "36 in. x 80 in. White Surface Mount Outswing Security Door with Meshtec Screen" - You cannot force your way into these, can't kick them in, or even break in with a massive heavy duty hammer. Look up "Meshec security door break in test" on youtube to see...)Anyways, this screen is heavier than a normal screen & it doesn't come with an automatic closer, so out of the box installed you need to pull it shut or it might stay open. I needed a closer that was strong enough to work on this heavier screen but that was also pretty low profile and easy to use and install. This closer has been great! It's easy to use, has a button you push if you want to keep/prop the door open for any reason, and has the power to fully shut the screen so that it latches. It's not too big - seems the same size as the tube closers on most screen doors I've seen.We did have our handy guy install it as we aren't that handy and we didn't want to chance screwing up our fancy Meshtec door in any way (they're kinda expensive). The handy guy said this closer went on very easily.SUMMARY: Great closer, works on heavier doors, works well and easy to install

So far, this seems to be much better than the original. It's clearly more sturdy, and I like the locking mechanism, which is better than the "twist tab" that the original had. Also, it appears to me that the paint is more sturdy (maybe enameled?) than the original which had started to flake.Installation was simple enough, though the self-tapping screws took more time to set than my previous experience with self-tapping screws.Update, 3 years later: While it is more sturdy than the original, it has also turned out to be less durable. It had to be replaced after only 3 years; its less sturdy predecessor went more than a decade longer before needing replacement.

We had a some strong winds this past weekend and our 3000 series storm door got caught by some of while closed and bent the installed closer and closing hardware. We had just purchased 6 months ago so when we contacted Andersen customer support we were told wind damage was not covered under their limited lifetime warranty, annoyingly, and we were directed to their parts and service page to purchase the kit. The price from them was $28 and some change, not including shipping, but we decided to purchase from here in order to get it two days using Prime. Glad we did as item arrived today and was exactly what we needed and install was a breeze from remembering how it was installed from before. The only con is that if you didn't remember how to install this part, the installation guide included is not helpful. It was more listing of all the items included with the part: screws, hardware, closer, etc. YouTube would probably be a better resource. Overall very happy with this purchase!
