Sturdy handle and solid construction make this a great choice. Seems durable and should be abel to sharpen dozens of times if not more.

I’ve seen several reviews mentioning issues with the sheath—people struggling to open it and potentially injuring themselves when trying to remove the axe. Thanks to those reviews, I was extra careful when handling it. I discovered a simple solution: just rotate the sheath along the arc (as shown in the attached picture) and it slides in and out easily. Given the number of negative reviews about the sheath, I would suggest that the manufacturer add this picture to the product label, which would resolve the issue for good.As for the blade, it’s not razor-sharp, but that’s typical for most affordable axes on the market. I haven’t used it extensively yet, so I can’t comment on the steel quality at this point. However, the axe’s overall construction—made in the US—along with its shape, handle, and blade symmetry, is excellent. I’m giving it 5 stars for being a solid, well-made product from the US.

It’s exactly what you need. It is heavy in a pack out however the hatchet can take a beating and it comes sharp and can be used as a hammer. Shape is good, I wanted the other version with the wood handle but it was to expensive. This is exactly the same but with a rubber shock absorbent handle. Feels durable and feels strong and comfortable in hand. Great price point, great product.

I have destroyed 3 other inexpensive small hatchets just splitting 12 inch oak for my grill and that's why I purchased this one because it's solid all the way through. I'm an old man so I use a 2 lb hammer to drive this hatchet to make small firewood for grilling, probably about 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches by 12 inches. All red and post oak with no bark. The hammer has eventually destroyed every hatchet I've used. Not this one... keeps a good edge and you can hardly tell that I've even used a hammer on it at all. Also it has very little to no vibration transfer through the handle. No doubt I could chop down a small tree but I use it for splitting small firewood and it's the best I've had.Side note...if you cook with charcoal... try cooking with oak only, no charcoal... you food will taste so much better... just saying

Been using this hatchet for batoning 2-3" deadfall limbs for kindling, feathering and chopping. Does the jobs that I bought it for; no complaints. I was surprised at how sharp is was right out of the package. Good balance. Comfortable grip. Easy to sharpen. The sharp edge along most of the bit holds for a long time. However, small nicks and chips appear on the edge within a 1/2" of the toe after use. Not sure yet if it is because of my technique or because that area of the bit is soft. Still, good value for the price; I recommend it.

How awesome is the ESTWING 14" Hatchet with Shock Reduction Grip? Like jumping the Grand Canyon on a rocket-powered motorcycle. I'm so thrilled to have this I am now looking at buying the entire ESTWING product line: crowbars, hammers, dead heads, axes, machetes, etc.The quality is off the charts, and best of all it is MADE IN USA.

If you're trying to feed a small stove or fire pit, this is a great value. It's sharp out of the box, has a good head shape, and is solid steel, no handle to ever break. That's also however a down side as the weight is too evenly distributed due to the heavier handle making chopping more labor intensive as is throughout their product line. So it's somewhat of a trade off, but for the casual camper who doesn't have to worry about carrying greater weight it's a great small hatchet. From small fire wood production to shelter building this will do it.

El acero se siente de calidad y el mango es increÃble, se nota que amortigua muy bien los golpes y no se resbala para nada.

Definitely a good camp axe and I like the high-viz orange. Decent blade, fairly sharp out of the box. Nice heft to it with a decent hammer. Sheath is nice but is a VERY tight fit.All in all, recommended!

These are best hatchet ever. I hunt and snare. Had a blue handled one when I was young. Lost it years ago.
