Worked great... Splitting huge maple rounds.. the extra ridge helps push things apart.. some good whacks with the blunt side of a maul and a satisfying crack and rip once you punch in. Highly recommend!

Works great! Took my splitting game for 0 too 100. You'll see that it does bounce out unless it's embedded in a crack reallynwell. Buy one it's in itll drive and split extremelly well!

Great addition to the woodshed. This wedge is 5lbs and very solid feeling. Excellent if you have a large log that needs to be split. The grips on the side are enough for you to get a handle on it to pull it out.Another quality item from Estwing.

Even thought these wedges are great, the 36†axe and maul fiberglass handles are junk. Called Estwing and they told me they don’t make the axe and maul. They just put their name on them, WTH. The wedges worked great!

Absolutely AWESOME wedges. I bought a pair. I'm splitting some very young (about 40-y-o) cedar, but a full 3.5 feet across. It is WET. It was cut 2 weeks before I started trying to split it with a maul. It just sank in and stuck itself, while water oozed out and puddled on the top of the chunk. These wedges, though, tame it. They have a really good, sharp edge to start it. I just let the maul drop on it one-handed, holding wedge with the other. Then I slowly ramp it up. I have a really lousy shoulder (super case of bicep tendonitis) so I have to really warm into the full swings. But anyway, get it started, and slowly drive it in. The cedar won't give at all, and then the wedge gets in to the super-flare. Suddenly you hear this big, internal CRACK. You barely see a crack, but you HEAR it. A few more strikes and it starts to separate. SOME have a branch through them, and will not separate. (Not a knot... a full-on branch encased in wood, complete with its bark!) In that case, I've actually buried it below the surface before the wood breaks. Once, I had to use the second one to split the first one out. But nothing can resist that double flare.NOTE: About the hardness. The TIP is hard. Mine has dropped out and tipped off the chopping block to the concrete. Barely any damage, although it chips the concrete a little (marks it). But the pounding surface is a little soft. So you WILL distort it, but that is a GOOD thing. If the striking head was as hard as the tip. you would have shards of metal popping off. I've noticed that it is pretty easy to use the maul against the concrete as an anvil to reshape it a bit. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES AND JEANS AND/OR BOOTS. You WILL pop a firewood chunk off into your leg, or miss and blow a wedge off into your foot.It's better to have your eyes intact when you are done. Honest.

I bought a Milwaukee 18V Hack Chainsaw which has just an 8" bar. I use the tool to create a slot to place the wedge which works perfectly with my old wedge. Even with the slot, I could not get the Estwing wedge to engage. It kept bounding out after every hit. The bottom width of the wedge is too wide. What the wedge is good for is as a second wedge on a larger 3' dia round, or after a wide split has started. So I give it 3 stars as a SECOND wedge to help open the split created by a different first wedge on larger rounds. Knowing Estwing, I'm sure the wedge is forged well.

Ok I was a bit worried when I read some of reviews, some people saying it was rubbish, some saying it was brilliant. It is very good when used with the right hammer! For small logs etc you just need to hold it and hit it a with a small 4lb hammer, then if required use something bigger... But if you hit with a bigger hammer first it will just bounce off. So I used it with a axe and splitter axe and it was fantastic. It's really solid I think it will last years! So it can handle splitting little bits of wood and also the really large stuff!

A tendance à rebondir difficile à faire prendre la tête pourrait être un peu plus large . Sinon plutôt satisfait éclate bien le bois ‘.
