iFixit Portable Anti-Static Mat - ESD Protection On the Go
When it comes to electrostatic damage there is no point in taking risks. Whether you are away from the workbench or don't have a workbench at all, this anti-static mat will ensure that your sensitive electronics are well protected.
Not to be confused with other, rigid anti-static mats, this mat is easily folded, stuffed, and moved. But, that doesn't mean it will falter in protecting your electronics from static damage. This mat measures 24" x 24" and includes a grounding wire/clip and wrist strap.

This was a great set that allowed me to show my son how ESD works. I bought a second strap so that we could both be connected to the pad at the same time. Probably overkill for a PC build, but it was what I needed it to be.

This is a high quality product. It folds, so it's compact to store. I measured the resistance and verified that the surface of the mat mat and wrist band/cable are about 12 Mohm, which is what is desired. Used it twice so far, and pleased.

This Anti-Static Mat, in my opinion, is the best one out there, especially for this price point. Something I love about it is just how portable it truly is -- it can take up very little room in a backpack, just throw in the grounding cord and stuff, and you're set! I also like the blue color, but that might not be for everyone I suppose. This definitely works -- I haven't shocked a an electronic component since I've had this (it's been almost a year now)! Great deal, I'd totally recommend.

I purchased a couple of these for two locations I frequent. Although the mat is a bit annoying that it doesn't lay very flat, it still gets the job done if you need something compact and portable. You can still keep screws from rolling all over, protect your device and the surface you are working on, see your parts, and most importantly not fry components with static if you happen to be in such an environment where one step and you've got a 2mm static arc. This brings up the major deficiencies in this kit. I had to purchase inexpensive plastic outlet banana jack adapters that certainly almost anyone would want to actually ground this kit, why they are not included is beyond me. Secondly of course is the fact that I'm using a one gallon freezer ziploc bag to contain the portable anti static mat and it's accessories? For an extra $5 this would be a complete and polished product. Although you would not be happy with the mat in a more permanent work shop setting, with a couple of extras you can build up a kit that stores compactly and is highly transportable. Recommended bit it could certainly be improved.

I blew a SSD changing a fan on an Acer because I wasn't being very careful about static electric problems. This little mat in addition to the additional plug you need to hook into your home ground thru a plug-in allowed for installing the replacement drive and some additional RAM without problems. You know what they say, don't fix it if it ain't broke, but when it is broke, fix it without breaking anything else. Lesson learned here.

I'm building maybe my last BUILD (70yrs. old and very sick). So I wanted to build it the right way, starting from the ground up. So I'm starting by getting an Anti-Static Mat. My System is going to be the best of the BEST, price will not be an object. From a New Gaming Full Tower Case to Video Card, m.2 & ssd memory, 1200Watt PSU and all the NEW Bells & Whistles !!! So as You can see; I don't want any stupid short to blow out this NEW SYSTEM. I could of spend a lot more money on an Anti-Static Mat, but why waste Good Money on something that is already the BEST and all I need to get the Job done in a VERY SAFE WAY ? This Mat will do It's JOB and More. More Money for my MASTER BUILD. I've been Building Personal Home Computers for 30 years or more. So how come I'm not as rich as Gates ? ANYWAY BUY THIS MAT !!! It's all You'll NEED !!!

Die Matte ist als Unterlage für Elektronik-Basteleien super geeignet! Auf dem hellen Blau fallen metallische Kleinteile gut auf. Ich löte auch darauf. Das gibt zwar schwarze Flecke, aber lieber die Matte als der Tisch. Und Zeitungspapier hat die doofe Eigenschaft, sehr gut zu brennen. Das ESD-Armbändchen ist genau so wie die in meiner Firma (also gut), es lässt sich auch bei längeren Arbeiten tragen, ohne dass es zu sehr stört. Die Möglichkeiten der Erdung sind vielseitig, ich benutze dafür die Klemme am Heizkörper. Alternativ lässt sich diese Klemme auch abziehen, und der Stecker lässt sich dann z.B. mit einem Adapter (nicht im Lieferumfang) mit der Steckdose verbinden. ACHTUNG: Nicht in die Steckdosenkontakte stecken!! Versteht sich eigentlich von selbst.Die Effektivität des ESD-Schutzes kann ich nicht überprüfen, ich habe aber noch kein Bauteil durch ESD zerstört.Eins noch: Passt auf mit Gleichtaktstörungen! Wenn ihr an Geräten mit eingeschalteten Schaltnetzteilen messt, verursachen die Schaltnetzteile hohe Gleichspannungen zu Erde. Für euch sind die nicht gefährlich, für Geräte allerdings schon! So ein Armband + Matte macht das Problem erstmal (prinzipbedingt) schlimmer. Achtet dann darauf, das Gerät am Gehäuse ebenfalls sauber zu erden.
