I had 14 Kidde alarms to replace. It took me the same amount of time to replace the first 12 (using these adapters) as it did to replace the last two (manually changing the wiring.) So figure a 6:1 time savings, totally worth the price. Plus, when you're up on a ladder on a two story balcony, it is a lot easier and less stressful to plug in this custom-made harness one-handed than to use both hands to fiddle with wire nuts.Another advantage of the adapters is that ten years from now when it is time to replace the alarms again, if I want to go back to Kidde all I have to do is remove the adapters and reuse the original wiring. These things made an all-weekend task into just a couple of hours of going up and down the ladder. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!Downsides: I do wish they sold them in something more practical like 4-packs or 6-packs, but the 12-back was very close to what I needed. And the adapter can be a bit clumsy to push into a crowded wiring box. But don't let those sway you, these things are great.

I had to cut the black plugs off because I only needed the pigtails, but they are all linked together now and working perfectly.

You might need these when installing a new smoke detector. Yes, they sometimes come with a bare wire connector that you can use, but who wants to go to all the trouble of turning off the circuit, putting the connector in with wire nuts, and then installing the detector, and then turning on the power again. (If you do the wire nut way, make sure you find the right circuit breaker to make sure the power's off). With these the job is a 10 minute job. Maybe even 5.

This item makes swapping a Kidde for First Alart/BRK smoke alarm very quick and easy. For what it is (a wire, with 2 plastic connectors), however, it is severely overpriced. The per-unit cost here would be acceptable, if it was possible to buy these in smaller quantities (ie: a 3 or 6-pack).In my case, I expected to need 3, and figured this would be worth the time savings. Unfortunately I unexpectedly found one of those 3 alarms was neither wired nor interconnected ... leaving me with 10 of these that I hope to be able to resell . . .

*****BEWARE****** This pigtail is for Firex model # i4618A & others !! I purchased First Alert model SC9120B & needed the conversion pigtail. Amazon sells (2) different pigtails. Be sure you purchase the correct one that you need. Mine needed the triangular shaped male connector to the female connector on old Firex pigtail. Sure you can actually replace the original pigtail that comes with the new detector, however, these conversion adapters (pigtail) make the job so much easier. Btw I went from a regular hardwired smoke detector (with battery b/u) to the new First Alert Smoke/Carbon Monoxide detector. A little more pricey, but, more peace of mind !!!

My house had wired Kidde smoke detectors on 3 levels (9 detectors). The idea of rewiring each plug for a new detector was very undesirable. These adapters were perfect (I carefully checked that my existing detector model and my intended new models were included by this adapter coverage). I bought new First Alert detectors at Lowes and swapped out my 15 year old Kidde detectors in short order. The slow step was unscrewing the old base plate and replacing it with the new one. The plugs made it possible to replace all of my old detectors in a couple hours. Money well spent!

I bought these to make swapping from kidde to first alert easy. They worked like a charm. My only complaint is they should have various packaging. I only needed 5 but have to buy 12.

Works very well to adapt from Kidde to first alert.

Easy to use. Adapters work great. Would be even better if you can purchase in smaller quantities.

The product is so easy to install. It is well worth the money, but like everyone else's review, it would be nice to buy a smaller package of these. I needed 3 and I had to buy 12. Either way it is good value but a little bit wasteful in my opinion.

While they appear to work, in converting Kidde hard-wiring to be compatible to First Alert detectors, do these adapters come any fewer than in units of 12?? As with the general population, I have only so many smoke detectors in my home. For the average apartment or house, 6-8 may be more reasonable a number. While a 12-pack minimum does generate a minimum revenue for the seller, it also means wasted materials (wiring and eco-unfriendly plastic) that eventually end up in landfill as excess unused supply. NOT socially responsible on the part of BRK, and a sheer waste of manufacturing resources all round.
