I got these because they were inexpensive, and I figured 4 was better than 1. I didn’t realize how handy it would be to have different lengths at my disposal. This is important when routing a shallow mortise. If you only have a long bit, then you need a template that is thick, in order that the bearing has something to ride against. With this set, you can pick the bit with the right length, so you don’t have to create a thick template.

If you're doing occasional home projects as a DIY'er, this is a good choice but if you're a serious wood worker, a higher quality bit is a better investment. For the $, though, this is a good deal.

I use plexiglass templates for guitar bodies. You have to be very careful about getting your cavity depth correct without accidentally damaging the template which takes longer to make than the wood body. I wish they made bit lengths in 1/8th inch increments but they do not seem to exist. So this short follower bit is a very useful substitute.

The small length of cut gives you ample room to do patterns in less thick material.
