Not happy with the quality (cheap plastic) and cost of the various pool filler options available I saw these inexpensive stainless steel "trough fillers" and figured out how to make them work for my pool.I have two skimmers in my pool but only use one at a time (seems to work better). I also had an extra skimmer lid. A trip to HD and about $10 in PVC fittings and I had everything I needed. Spent a little time getting the height right to fill the pool mid tile, then glued it up.Putting it in the skimmer should help reduce the on-off, on-off cycling of the valve from swimmers' waves. But you could easily fabricate it to hang over the coping with some PVC pipe and fitting.While the fittings on the valve are 3/4", the actual valve opening it closer to 1/2" so it is not the fastest filler. It took about 4 hours to bering my pool up 1-1/2".I did add a Rainbird pressure regulator (optional) to keep the PSI at 25. Since I go out of town often I plan to add a irrigation timer to limit any fills to an hour a day. (Even with the arid drought contditions we we are having now that is more than enough fill time.)

This works great! We hooked it up to the faucet with hose that goes on a washing machine, metal hose. It turns on and off as necessary to keep the dog's water dish filled. Great!

I was sick and tired of the plastic trough floats you can get at the big box stores. Our cows have broken every single one. They consume around 200 gallons of water per average day so keeping the trough full is a chore. This is awesome! Has been a total game changer.

I got these valves for topping off my in-ground pool and my dogs' kiddie pool. The two float valves are well-constructed, heavy-duty, and rust/corrosion resistant. Easy to install and to adjust the water level by how you position your hose. The water flows smoothly and shuts off securely.
