Frequently Asked Questions
What does the center green light mean?
In certain models, the center LED will turn green to indicate the exact center of the stud.
What does the single blinking light mean?
Several of our models now have a low battery indicator. When the battery voltage is low, the second LED from the right will flash. Replace with two brand new batteries.
Why do the LED lights flash when I first press the button?
In certain models, the LED lights will flash when you first press the button to assure you that the unit is on and receiving power.
What batteries can I use?
For best results, use two brand new, non-rechargeable AAA batteries (check instructions for details).

Installed aromatic cedar in my closet. Concerned about nailing into studs with wiring - this is an incredible product. Finds the stud center and locates wiring. Easy to use and accurate. So it doesn't take rechargeable batteries - really? Not a big deal. I removed the batteries when I was done and kept them in the box with the stud finder. Would highly recommend for safe nailing.

Exactly what I needed. Old fashioned ones are too unpredictable. This one is correct where the stud is every time. No confusing beeping. Just look at the lights. Perfect size to hold and manage. Functions as promised. Saves time and holes in the wall.

Does a great job finding Wall studs.Close accuracy for edge of stud. May have to float back and forth to find the in between of light sensor. Its not as accurate for the electrical. Its finds it alright just its telling me theres electrical where theres not electrical. Odd. I think its finding metal idk. Still a good product

Don’t waste your money on off brand ones. This is the real deal. This detects studs extremely accurately. Super easy to use, the LEDs work great, fits in my hand, and it’s a solid build. I should spent the extra money and bough this instead of the off brand one. Great value for great equipment.

I purchased the Franklin M150/X990 stud finder to locate metal and wood studs in a wall that needed remodeling. Out of the box, it is very intuitive to use it; put two batteries in it (not supplied) and within 10 minutes had marked all studs in a 20-foot wall. Remarkable. The manufacturer says that each LED indicator corresponds to a sensor, I can confirm that this is correct, and a very useful feature in being able to find center very rapidly.

My only regret is not buying one of these YEARS ago. This stud finder is fantastic and worth every penny. A welcome addition in my tool arsenal. And this is coming from a person who critiques EVERYTHING . I can’t find anything not to like about this product

I've spent far too much on different stud detectors of the usual design - a screen to pinpoint the centre, and two sensors one at each side. They do their thing, but they never give me much confidence because I don't need to know the centre of the stud, I need to know how wide it is and where there's hollow and where stud.The Franklin does all of that through a row of LEDs, I wish I could show a video. You can see the width of the stud as a row of lit up LEDs along the length of the device, and if there's mains electricity, then the electricity lights light up to warn you.What would I like to see? Depth, and perhaps the depth of the plaster/ drywall. But you can't have everything (at least I don't think anyone has done that?).Absolutely brilliant, and although it's expensive, it's cheaper than buying 4 ordinary ones that end up not doing the job as I've done before this.

I was about to write this off as a piece of garbage- I was using it to detect electrical wires under plaster and on a chimney breast and it was flashing up as showing electrics under all walls.I was at the end of my tether as it was the second device I have bought.I googled it and the diagnosis was to put a hand on the wall you are scanning- as plaster is not grounded it needs something to break the circuit.Well it worked- the wall I thought had no electrics doesn’t so I managed to drill into it confidently.
