It's hard not to like a GATS Jar. With AvGas prices being what they are, who wants to waste any? That and dumping it on the ground is not necessarily a good thing. This is about a simple as it gets, yet it still allows you to separate water from fuel so you can put the fuel back into your plane. This is the smallest one they make, so if you have a large number of sumps (like on a modern C-172) you may want a larger jar, but this is perfect for the small number of sumps on my wife's 1956 C-172.And it's small enough to fit in the seat-back pocket on the pilot's seat.

GATS jar, if you don't have one, get one. For $25 this is a handy device to keep from wondering, what do I do with the fuel sample? Take the sample, inspect, put fuel back in tank. I've used it on Pipers and Cessnas. Good stuff.

What I like about it:1. It's made of plastic and is unbreakable from a typical fall2. It has a screen that allows you to return the fuel to the tanks. The screen effectively blocks any water and debris from returning to the tank.3. The screen is easily cleaned by unscrewing the lid and blowing out the debris.4. The plastic jar is very clear and allows easy inspection of fuel condition.5. It's far easier to sump tanks and avoid any fuel spilling onto your hands.6. Allows you to take large fuel samples without discarding fuel... Gas Ain't Cheap! What I don't like:1. I think that the jar plastic is thin and may scratch.2. It's light weight and can easily be moved by wind.Minor issues that are far out weighed by the benefits.I highly recommend this fuel sample jar.

Great concept and easy to use! I have not yet encountered any water with it (well, honestly, I have only sumped a few drops, one time, over 20+ years of sumping in my location), or any other contaminates, but I like the ease with which I can return the sumped fuel to the tanks. It is a good size, and is easy to handle.I hope I don't need to buy another, but I will, if necessary. There does not seem to be a better way to handle this necessary function.

This used to be the best product on the market for fuel testers. In the past couple years they have changed the lid plastic and it now fails rapidly. Mine lasted less than a year of infrequent use. Avoid this now until the company finds a better plastic supplier

Works great lots of area for inspection on fuel.

This fuel tester is essentially a transparent jar with a fuel-tester ending. It does the job just as well as other fuel testers do. It has a mesh on the return end so that after you've checked the fuel for contamination you can pour it back in the tank. And since you are not throwing fuel away, you are really saving it. The only drawback to it is that it is a little bulky. You cannot stick it in a side pocket, while you are doing a pre - flight inspection. Maybe adding a strap to it so it can be attached to a belt could be a good solution.

have to say a really good product, By using this to test fuel any crap or debris is kept in the jar for and prevented from entering the tank on pour back by the mesh screen. Just put your fuel tank flexi drain tube into the circular necked opening and hit your drain valve and it gets straight into the jar ahead of the filter screen section. you can clearly see exactly what was in your tank.It large enough to take a really good sample and see any water very clearly, some of the smaller screwdriver type checkers you couldn't even milk a gnat into, this is a large jar in a small package. I can take a good draw from both tanks on the R44 I fly with room to spare and clearly see any issues (none yet) and then simply pour back into the tank. There is only one improvement I think they could make and that is to provide a lid that goes over it when you are finished to prevent any dirt or dust from wherever you store the device getting in there. I've seen that on one in a machine I flew that first tempted me to buy one of these. I actually ended up buying two of these as they are that good
