There isn't enough room for me to give a class on surviving nuclear fallout, but having this instrument would enable your survival if you've done your homework and taken some logical 'Prepper' steps. We face nuclear threats in the form of WWIII from multiple sources...some making nuclear threats while actively engaged in war.Can you survive a nuclear attack? it's possible, but ONLY if you've prepared and learned how. Fallout radiation will be persistent and lethal for at least 48 hours after it starts, but it can be MITIGATED enough to save yourself and your family.

Full disclaimer: I got this to experiment around with. I have no way of determining how accurate or fast it is at the moment. It reads between .12 - .16 uSv/h on my desk typically. According to the web, the background radiation in Dallas is roughly .06 uSv/h. I don't know if something in my vicinity is causing it to read higher or if it's not accurate. That said, it feels solidly constructed and the display is both readable and can be backlit. You can use it either as a real time Geiger counter or a longer term dosimeter. It's pretty straightforward to use but like I said, I cannot comment on its accuracy at the moment.

This detector is very clear and easy to use. The vendor was even considerate enough to include a small Phillips screw driver, for the compartment, when you need to change batteries. And, it updates, quite efficiently, in real-time (you will notice the changes, within the space, and as you go to different areas or rooms). I just started using this, but I'm already pleased. I know this isn't the most accurate--there are more expensive and precise detectors, particularly for industrial use--on the market. But, this is perfect for home use, and for those who want to begin gaining awareness of the radiation levels around them.

Tested this against two other devices both got the same number with a test card but this device never goes above 15 no matter where you leave the card against it even if you let it sit on the card for a few minutes wouldn’t rely on this device to give you a actual reading to save my life if something happens

The FS600 Bosan Radiation Detector is compact and seems reasonably durable. I'm far from completely satisfied with my purchase though because it was supposed to include batteries and it didn't. I'm also unhappy because the instrument came packaged with instructions for the FS1000 which Is a different product. The display has a few different modes including one for sound. I tried adjusting the sound settings hoping to get clicks corresponding to counts per minute but no matter how I adjusted the setting there was no way to hear any clicking. The device does have an audible alarm which is activated when the radiation level reaches a user preset level but not having an audible click is disappointing. A useful feature is a durable belt/pocket clip on the back. The only reason that I could recommend for buying this product is that for about $70 it's about all you can expect.

This Geiger counter is qualified as an awareness device that can tell the existence of the radiation, but the accuracy and response time is not as good as a professional-grade Geiger counter. I have access to certified Geiger counters with routine maintenance. The reading from this device is at least 20% off of the accurate readings with a very slow response. It is okay for home use but the readings are not good for measurement purposes.
