This tool centers your marking hardware holes. Use the jiffy centering punch for quickly starting screw holes when attaching countersunk hardware such as hinges, hasps, hangers, and drawer pulls. Countersunk end ensures starting hole is centered in hardware screw hole. It has a hardened steel pin and is spring loaded. The plated body is 2-1/2" x 3/8".

Why didn't I ever hear of these before. I was watching a video and saw the person using one of these and I immediately went online and ordered one. I've used it multiple times and it works great. I just can't believe I had never heard of it before. Highly recommended!

I bought this to assist me in installing about 35 cabinet door hinges. It was invaluable in making the job easier and more accurate. I took a loose hinge that was not installed on a cabinet and measured the face frame to where the hinge should be installed. I then held the hinge in the proper place using this punch which, because of its taper, centered itself on the top hole of the hinge. A quick tap of the hammer provided a perfectly centered start for my hinge screw. I then drilled a guide hole and placed the cabinet door with preinstalled hinges on the frame and screwed the top screw in. That allowed me to hold the bottom preinstalled hinge to the face frame and repeat the same procedure as I did on top. I then used the punch to establish perfectly centered starts for the bottom holes as well. This tool made my job so much easier and more accurate for about 5 bucks....hard to beat.

The punch in the middle doesn't seem to punch the exact center. It has a bit of play in it so that it might be off center at times. But close enough for rock and roll! Otherwise, wasn't expecting super high precision for an inexpensive tool, so for the price this works good. However, I am going to invest in an "auto punch" that you don't have to hit with a hammer. Trying to hold the hinge and this punch and then hit it with a hammer is a little hard to do and if you are in an awkward setup it is easy for things to move around. An auto punch would make this a lot easier to hold the hinge steady while making the hole punches.UPDATE: I upgraded my rating by a star because I realized that the reason that the hole wasn't exactly centered is because you have to make sure that the tool is held precisely perpendicular to the hinge - a slight angle will cause the point to stab in off center - so I admit it, operator error! : ) I checked the tool and the center punch point is centered, so I wanted to make sure I didn't unfairly rate this tool, it is pretty solid. I will however stand by my original statement that if you are trying to hold a hinge, hold the tool and hammer, you might want to invest in the auto-punch style or grow a third hand. But for the price, this is great if you are not regularly using a tool like this. The autopunch variety are more like $40

Needed this to center screws in door hinges. Vicks bits didn’t work well enough. This tool was exactly what was needed.Recommend for similar work.

I already had non-centering punches, so I was reluctant to spend more money on a tool I wasn't sure I actually needed. However, I was mounting piano hinges with 15 holes for screws, and the quality of the hole placement was much improved with this punch. It centered the punch divots in the hinge plate holes much better prior to drilling pilot holes at the divots. It's not a slam dunk, you still have to hold the punch up perfectly straight while tapping it with a hammer. Put your reflexes on hold! But if the punch is straight, the divot will be centered.

It does not center punch in the exact center of the hinge hole. The accuracy is terrible...you'd be better off just eyeballing the center of the hole and marking with pencil. The machine build tolerance of this punch is very low...the pin has a lot of play. But I'm not surprised, cuz i read all the other reviews saying this exact same thing, but i was hoping that I would maybe get a good one. Its a typical low quality tool made in china, so I got what i paid for. I was mounting new back door and it def caused me some grief getting hinges mounted exactly where needed them on the door. I already threw it in trash.

Used one of these at work and definitely see the need. THIS IS NOT A CENTRE PUNCH FOR HARD MATERIAL !!! It has a very specific function, and that is for cantering screws when mounting hinges. Using this punch allows you to centre screws in the hinge so it stays exactly where you need it to be (instead of shifting the hinge and making the door hanging more difficult). I’m in the process of replacing all our interior doors and this makes the job infinitely easier.

Wish I'd discovered this tool years ago. Have used it many times since I bought it. It is my 'go to' punch. Very accurate on timber and soft metals
